I agree with this one. I'd prefer Milsap because he seems to be a better defensive player and rebounder.

And Okur's expiring contract is also pretty useful.

Apparently, Hayward is considered an untouchable over in Utah (what is the world coming to?). The Millsap/Okur package might be more realistic.... not a bad deal for us.

Much prefer Okur/Milsap over Jefferson.

Hayward? Not really interested anyway.

It will be interesting to see what the new regime does? A lot of the deals for guys like Milsap, Ellis, etc, still aren't going to get us out of mediocrity. First or second round playoff exit team at best. They might balance the personnel a little better, but to be contenders this team needs more than that unless Holiday and Turner make huge leaps forward this year. Will new ownership be patient enough to wait and see on that or do they try to make a big splash early on?

I'm starting to think we shouldn't use the amnesty clause this year... Just to free up room for brown??? Instead I'd save it so you have the option of clearing brands salary going into his last year, clearing 16m a year early could be very helpful especially if we do something with Iggy between now and then.

Agree, except if they use it on Brand and move Igoudala they would have a much higher pick in the stacked 2012 draft to go along with a possible major acquisition with their cap space.

Jrue, Thad, Turner, L. Will, Vuvicic, Good young piece from Iggy trade, top ten pick from a stacked draft and a Star with their cap room. How's that for change?

I hope the new owners have the vision to see it is time to think 3-5 years from now.

Amnesty Brand -a team will bid on him & money will be saved.

Deal Iguodala- we are loaded at the 3. I am torn on what to do here. Trade for an Ellis & have an elite scorer? Or, trade for a package like Minny or Utah could offer? I am leaning for a Utah type deal.

Hopefully sixerfan will have some info soon.

i know their plan before lockout was trade speights.....sign kwame to start at center and/or share time with hawes.......and figure out what they are going to do with iguodala. They feel that Turner can play SF, if they can land a good SG for iguodala.

i agree with dbodner that if they use it at all, it will be nocioni.

Thad is their top priority to resign too.

They are really high on vucevic but with a short year...and condensed training camp...he probably wont play too much this year.

I'm going down with the ship on this one, but...

I think its foolish to trade Speights when the team desperately needs talent at a big position. Hawes is perfectly decent as in not good enough to start for most teams. Your not getting more then that for Speights. Why not hold on to him and hope he turns into gold on you?

Also, if amnesty is really bankable (for contracts prior to the new CBA and on your team at the time), they could wait on it and not spent it yet on Nocioni. Instead, saving it for next season and Brand if they go that route. I wouldn't expect it, and if not amnestying Nocioni costs Thad it wasn't worth it, but something that could be considered.

That's possibly the most intelligent thing I've read on this board in a long time. It really doesn't make sense to amnesty Nocioni to clear off $6 million from the cap for one year. The Sixers won't be able to make a major move even if Nocioni's contract comes off. The only reason I would amnesty Nocioni is in the event some team offers Thad a big contract and the Sixers need the money to match that offer.

Amnestying (is that a word?) Brand this year doesn't make sense either. He is still a productive player and a leader. I haven't been a huge fan of Brand and have been critical of some of his behavior in the past, but I think he's a good influence on the younger players. I would keep Brand for this season to help mentor and also to prevent developing a losing culture on the team. Can't cut the leader and one of the team's best players without affecting morale.

None of the free agents from this years crop - West, Nene...- are going to be difference makers on the current Sixers. So to me it makes no sense to use the amnesty move. Pocket it and save it for later.

One year from now, Dwight Howard and some other players will be free agents and would be worth using the amnesty clause to attempt to acquire them. Wouldn't it be great if Jrue, Evan and Thad continue to progress this season, make the playoffs and get some experience and then use the amnesty clause on Brand in his final year to clear off $18 million a year to go after a top level free agent? Not to mention Nocioni's contract will expire and provided no one offers Hawes an offer the Sixers choose to match, Hawes and his roughly $4 million could come off the cap. Additionally Brackins and Speights could come off the books too. Meeks will become a restricted free agent.

So Philly could head in to the 2012 offseason with Iguodala, Lou Will, Turner, Holiday, Thad (let's say Thad signs for around $6 million a year) and Vucevic (let's guess his salary will be around $2 million) under contract and only have roughly $37 million on the cap. They'll have roughly $21 million to spend on free agents. That could get you a premier free agent and a very good one. And you could easily move Vucevic and his salary to get to around $23 million to spend on free agents. Not only that, you could be a player in the trade market. Suddenly the future doesn't look so shabby.

Factoring in the short season, I would opt for status quo this season, see how things shake out and which players make progress. I'd aim for making a big splash in the 2012 free agent market. By then, things will be a lot clearer.

they are exploring trades of iguodala for a center or a SG. If they get a center, they want to sign tayshaun prince for the midlevel. If they get a SG, they want Kwame Brown.

They want meeks to be the backup SG and turner to start....envisioning instant offense off the bench of Lou,meeks and Young(and probably Hawes). If they acquire a SG, they have no problem with Turner starting at SF.

Speights will be gone shortly after transactions are allowed. The return is not expected to be much. They are comfortable with Allen,Vucevic,Brackins as the backup big men other than Hawes. Nocioni will either be amnesty'd or bought out. He doesnt want to be here.

Their first target at SG is kevin martin, Monta is 2nd, but front office folks question whether he fits here.. Wesley Matthews is of interest to them but that one would probably take a three teamer to do. They also like Batum but Portland doesnt want to move him. They envision Martin as the perfect fit here but no idea if the Rockets are open to moving him.

I dont know any names at center, but I agree with others that Utah may be a fit.(just my opinion)

At least this new regime is going to make a smart move and unload Iggy. This team needs to get ET on the floor at the SF spot. Let him play some point forward if needed. And with a scorer at the SG position. Along with Jrue. It should be nice.

they arent going to dump Andre tho. If they dont get what they want...they wont move him right now. They would just sign a center like Kwame and get rid of Nocioni and Speights. But they are at least trying to move Andre now. They realize that Turner wont take the next step in his career until Andre is gone.

That makes sense.

Dumping your best player would be dumb as rocks, but moving him for a better fit when you have a younger cheaper guy with a similar skill set to replace him makes infinite sense. I like Martin a lot better as Ellis would be another guy who wants the ball in his hands all of the time. Martin would allow Holiday and Turner to be the primary ball handlers and is so efficient. Not great on D, but if they shore up the middle that can be covered for a bit.

I would love to get Matthews too, though Batum has consistently been off limits and the salaries really don't match. Not sure who the third team in would be.

My preferences would be Matthews, Martin and then Ellis.

How has Prince been as a defender lately? I know the past few seasons in Detroit have been pretty bad, but would he be an acceptable defensive specialist replacement if AI2 is traded?
