Bring together a group comprised of people like Dr. J, Croce, Billy C. and even Sir Charles. Maybe throw a journalist and a blogger or two or lifetime season ticket holder to add some diversity. Then have them meet yearly in a luxury box to assess the state of the franchise and ensure it is at least headed in the right direction.

Of course that sort of describes what the CEO's is supposed to be doing, but the Sixers should also draw on their franchises resourced both from its storied past and community.

We have a fan advisory council that consists of current season-ticket holders with whom we meet throughout the season in the Hall of Fame room at the Wachovia Center.

TK, it sounds to me like you're describing what a non-profit agency will often have as a board. Of course the Sixers are run by a for-profit corporation, but to have a non-affiliated, diverse, basketball conscious (like some you described) group of people not paid by the team, and not just comprised of season ticket holders could theoretically give honest and knowledgeable feedback to the team's management. The common season ticket holder is not necessarily going to give knowledgeable feedback, and the advisors paid by the company will be beholden to whoever is in current management.
