IMPORTANT: Inappropriate Images

Post#1 » by dbodner » Thu Nov 11, 2010 12:35 am

Please keep pictures of scantily glad women (or men, for that matter) out of threads. Some people do browse this forum at work (feel free to debate the ethical dilemma of this here if you wish), and some do browse this forum around their kids. People should not have to worry about who's looking over their shoulder while browsing this forum. It's inappropriate, and off-topic. If you wish to post provocative pictures, please create an OT thread and label it appropriately.

Thank you.

This is weak. A few people blow up about some pictures and it's outlawed. I guess baiting and attacking members is the way to get things done seeing Kobblehead wasn't banned for his actions yesterday.

This is directed at Kobbhead as well.
If I put a picture of a hamburger up on the game thread every time before a game would you still have a problem with that? It's not basketball related but I might think posting a picture of a delicious juicy hamburger could possibly bring us luck.
You did a great job whining about all of this and if I could use some different terms and get away with it I would. If anybody acted arrogant about this it was you and only you.

1. If you are surfing the web at work it suggests to someone like me that you are NOT doing your job. If thats the case you deserve for your boss to catch you playing on the internet. Thats why it's called work.

2. The same thing goes for college. I doubt mommy and daddy are paying out their thousands of dollars so that you can surf the web and play on facebook while you are learning at school.

For the record I apologize for anyone that was offended or terrified at seeing a woman in lingerie. The whole concept started out as a way to lighten things up on the thread in case we were going to lose the game. I personally thought it was funny while others like Kobblhead were emotionally wounded by seeing such things.

Once again I truly hope that I or the others posting photos haven't scarred you in any way.

Like I said though... Work and play are two different things and this country wasn't built by us playing but it is failing right now because we aren't working. Real GM, facebook, your cell phone, twitter, fishville, etc should be the least of your concerns while you are at work. I don't care how much F.O. time you have.

PS
I regards to wife and kids I completely understand that more than the work thing because I have a wife and kids and my wife was pretty pissed at me for posting the photos as well although she didn't complain as much as Kobblehead did.
I too work full time and go to school but my job is more of a physical job than a computer job and I don't get the opportunity to even be around a computer at work.

If every employee/student who ever surfed the web while at work/school were to be fired/expelled, then most workplaces and schools would be pretty damn empty...

1. The second quoted paragraph is just taking this wayyyyy too far. Also you have no business telling me how to do my job. You have no idea what I do or how much I get done.

2. Even though I know this post is not supposed to be directed towards me, the first part of this quote is. You seem to still not get that I am not worried about being caught web surfing, if I couldn't do it I wouldn't. There is a big difference between being seen taking a break for a couple minutes and checking things out, and being seen taking a break and checking completely inappropriate things out that I have no idea are even there to avoid.

And for the PS part, it's good to see you are open minded enough to only understand things you have experience with yourself.

See, this is the whole problem. You're being completely ignorant on the whole subject. Nobody is offended by girls in lingerie. People are offended when they have to look over their shoulder while trying to discuss basketball.

You can keep insulting me by saying I'm afraid of girls or that I'm a square. I can keep insulting you that you must not have much female contact or you're posting to cover up your insecurities. In the end where does that get us? Just be considerate. The one guy that asked politely, you criticized his work ethics. That's unacceptable.

A few members, including your moderator. You'd best stop making fun of those who disagree with you.

Knobblehead was warned, as were other parties who took part in the back and forth, privately. Nobody was banned. If you wish to bait, please continue, but disciplinary action will follow.

For the record, I love pictures of women in lingerie (or less). There is a time and place for everything. It is not hard to find such photos on the internet, so you are doing nobody a service by posting them here, and making it uncomfortable for people with wives/coworkers/kids who may be around.

It would be nice if people respected others wishes rather than attacked and criticized. A little bit of common courtesy goes a long ways.

You should read up on studies of productivity on the workplace. It's proven that short, couple minute breaks every hour enhances productivity. For some, that break is a smoke break. For others it's water cooler chit-chat. For some, it's reading about basketball, politics, or what-not at their computer. Neither is more productive or damaging than the other.

For the record, I'm a network administrator by trade. I would be the one logging and scanning all of our users activity to make sure they are browsing work related sites with 100% of their mouse clicks. That's not productive, either in terms of workplace atmosphere or in terms of actual productivity. I measure productivity, not time spent.

Most places I've worked you can't view anything not work-related and there is software in place to prevent that from happening. Data privacy is of utmost importance, so I have probably worked in extremely secure networks. I am also working with stuff that I could put someone 6 feet under if I make a mistake, so all ausio/video streaming is prohibited.

Mouse clicks/character counting is too big brotherish for me. But if you do look at work you can't be risque. Those people who are looking at work, probably are appreciative of the fact and it would be a shame if that luxury they enjoy at work is taken away from them through no fault of their own, but because someone thought it was neat for posting some "hot babe" photos.

And about any wife or kids comments....there are reasons why we have computers in the living room and dining room, so that we can monitor. Parenting is a 24/7/365 gig, you can't just go ignore your kids and lock yourself in a room so that they can't see a game thread....you have to interact and be available for them.

There are certainly places where a 2 minutes "basketball break" isn't (and shouldn't be) permitted. The point is, don't deny anyone the opportunity because of childish antics (which you then said, and I agree with, in the next paragraph).

The kids thing really isn't debatable by anyone who's actually tried raising a kid.
