Charles Barkley interested in being Sixers GM

94WIP’s Anthony Gargano is reporting that Charles Barkley would be interesting in becoming the new Sixers general manager. Gargano asked Barkley via text message if he’d be interested in being the Sixers GM, and Barkley responded “yes sir.”

Makes as much sense as Shaq being mentioned with the Magic. Could you imagine Charles response to being told he's just going to be a "yes man" for Doug Collins...."turrible".

Barkely only follows the top 8 teams in the NBA. He's not qualified for a GM position IMO.

This is a non-story. I'm sure if he texted him and asked him if he wanted to be in a Burger King commercial he would have texted back "yes sir" as well.

On the positive side, it's obvious he thinks this team is awful. So those in the "blow it up" category would get their wish.

I wouldn't open the door wide, but I wouldn't close it on him either. The Sixers could hire him as a draft consultant. That could lead to more down the road if they like his input... or not. He played with Dr J., so there should be a comfort level there (though I noticed he doesn't talk about him much - it's usually Moses, sometimes Andrew Toney (the two guys he had trouble posting up).

If during the draft the 6ers pick with a number of undersized PFs left on the board, it'd be interesting to get his opinion of them. No idea if he's been right, wrong or indifferent about any college players in the past, but I think he'd see things in a player that the current FO wouldn't... unless you consider Doug part of the FO at this point. If the 6ers land a PF that's half the MF Charles could be on the court, they'll be in good shape. Obviously he has to have some game, too.

I don't think he's a stupid as he really shows on Inside the NBA. Not that I want him to be a GM, but I don't think he's a moron either.
