Re: Jordan McRae
Love McRae, and being that I am an East TN resident I hope he makes the team and has an impact. I've followed a lot of UT basketball over the years and to me McRae had the same look going for him that CJ Watson had while he played there. You just knew Watson was going to be a pro despite the fact that he wasn't even the best player on the team during his tenure (Chris Lofton was). I think the same can be said about Jordan McRae. He was steady and consistent the entire time he was here and while guys like Tobias Harris, and Jarnell Stokes grabbed most of the headlines, it was McRae who really stood out to me. His upside isn't as high as what Harris carries, but I think he can be as good as CJ Watson has been in the league and maybe even better. To me...That is a steal with the 58th pick. Keep in mind i'm not comparing the two...Once again...NOT COMPARING THE TWO STYLE WISE....I'm just saying that he (McRae) has the same look fundamentally.

This is why Hinkie is so good at what he does. Stockpiling 2nd rounder other GMs don't think twice about trading and now we have 3 guys that we picked up in the 2nd round and showed promise in the summer league and could pan out to be solid players. A 58 pick turning out would be unheard of I think though.

I would be absolutely thrilled with that. Granted most people soured on James Anderson pretty quickly because he was a "shooter" who couldnt shoot. But if McRae this year shoots even 35% from 3 as compared to Andersons 32.8% and puts up other numbers close to Anderson, hed be maybe the biggest steal of the draft.
Of course, I see that as his absolute ceiling for this year and maybe even above his ceiling. I also highly doubt he gets handed the starting SG role right away like Anderson was. I expect Jason Richardson to have a say in those minutes at least to start the year. But as the season moves along, I think we'll see McRae get a real shot to put up those kind of numbers, I really hope he takes advantage of it.
I think McRae will be much better than Anderson honestly.
Sorry maybe I didn't make my point as clear. Im talking about just this year. Of course I agree Jordan McRae will be better than James Anderson in the long run. But expecting him to average over 10 a game while shooting over 43% and over my point of 35% from 3 is a bit overly optimistic for his rookie year as the 58th pick in the draft isn't it? Maybe I'm wrong and my expectations should be higher.
Hell I'd be happy with a Hollis Thompson like rookie year out of him.
I believe he can easily average 10 ppg if he gets 20+ mpg due to his ability to drive in and get to the free throw line often. Then including his pretty decent shot, I don't think it's too far off

His ability to draw fouls is very similar to Manu.

You'd have to think with McRae's hot start in the NBL that he has a very good chance of being recalled back to the Sixers by January. By then, maybe there isn't such a log jam on the roster. Sure would like to see this guy play in a Sixers uniform this season.

Manu was a 57. Pretty damn interchangeable at that point.
They say an analytics man doesn't have a heart, but I ran the numbers and nothing can be further from the truth - Sam Hinkie probably

during an era of international players constantly getting overlooked and underestimated. has there ever been any local talent picked real low in the draft that's made any offensive significance?
I clearly said offensive coz of Ben Wallace who wasnt drafted lol

Not sure if mcrae is as versatile as manu. You have to remember the spurs use manu as a pg, sg, sf lol (wroten for us, possibly?(. I think mcrae is more of an instant offense guy ala patty mills/gary neal for the spurs.

I don't think he will be Manu either but he and Manu both have the ability to get to the line.

There have been a handful. Depends what you consider "real low in the draft." Off the top of my head Isaiah Thomas was the last pick in the draft a few years ago. Jeremy Lin wasn't drafted.

Re: Jordan McRae
Well Thomas was the last pick in his draft, Scola was also something like 55, Marc Gasol and Millsap were also pretty low picks 45-50 i think and stehpen Jackson and Ellis were also mit 2nd round i think. Maybe mcrea will be also a great steal^^
