5yrs/60m for Gortat? ouch. He's 30 years old and barely an above average center.

Washington is pretty much doomed to mediocrity for the forseeable future like we had been for so long before Hinkie.

I only slightly disagree. They have Wall who has a higher ceiling than anyone we've had post Iverson. They also have Beal who has that same potential IMO, and either a young guy in Porter who could still develop or is at least decent trade chip this year still.

I think they could be a 3 seed for a couple years going forward.

I'm not surprised and that's the NBA salary structure. That's about right for Gortat. As much as we love Hinkie at some point he's going to start handing out similar contracts. Gortat is a quality NBA player and those guys cost money.

Two-way bigs are always overpaid. Gortat had their balls in a vice grip, though. They're on the verge of contention, they can't justify letting a very good two-way center walk.

Lol @ Bradley's contract. I wanted him on the Sixers on a short contract but 4 years/$32MM is a bit much.

They can be a three seed at best or even sneak out of the East depending on what happens to the rest of the East in free agency, but they still won't be among the true championship contenders IMO. They'll get swept by whoever comes out of the West.

Maybe it is just semantics... but if you can 'sneek out of the East' that basically means you are a contender. It also makes vets willing to take a discount to come compete with you in the future.

Granted don't like the deal... but IMO they have enough young guys that they are not 'topped out' yet.

Oh yea...Stephenson (temporarily) turned down 5 years/$44mil from the pacers, thinks he's worth much more.

Gave up a first round pick before the season started for him as well. Obviously they couldn't let him go, but the fact that it's 5 years fully guaranteed would really piss me off if I was a wizards fan.

Point taken but I only see that possibility if the Big 3 break up. As it stands right now, I have Miami, Indiana, and Chicago all ahead of the Wizards. That could change of course once free agency is settled but that's how I have it right now.

I also see the Cavs (an already decent team that got super lucky in the lotto again with Wiggins), Bucks (added Parker plus they underachieved greatly last season despite having talent on their roster) and Magic (solid young core which added Gordon and Payton) potentially overtaking the Wizards in another year or two with the Nets and Knicks taking a few steps back.

And after that, hopefully we'll finally be ready to take the league by storm. :D

Since we are playing semantics today...if two-way bigs are always overpaid are they really overpaid or does the market drive them to make more.

It makes no difference.

You can acknowledge an overpayment and still see that it was necessary.

Always liked Gortat ever since he was in Orlando. 12m isn't bad for him. But 5 years is a year too long. The story of the NBA

This tweet was about Hayward by ESPN Stats, but when I noticed MCW was among great company, I had to post it in here.
