I think the forum's heyday was during the run up to the Iverson trade.
Nowadays, the forum is kind of a haven for Hinkie fans. I'm not sure a poll of the users of this forum demonstrates any general fanbase approval of Hinkie. In face to face conversations with people in the Philadelphia area, I hear "the sixers are a freakin joke" pretty often.
Casual Sixers fans' opinions wouldn't demonstrate any fanbase disapproval of Hinkie. While I agree the Hinkie worship does get carried away, over half the morons calling into the radio to lash Hinkie have no legitimate gripe with the guy. All they can muster up is that they're tired of waiting. Well me too guys, I was tired of waiting for a formidable, contending team since 2002, when the majority of these whiners probably weren't watching this team.
I'm sure the Hinkie following has gained bandwagoners, but I believe most of his supporters are fans that have followed this team over the past decade and are desperate for change.
guilty. Thus the excitement for trades such as this. It is different and progressive. This specific trade satisfies both the #thisstartsnow and #trusttheprocess fans way of thinking too which is why there's such a loud reaction to it. Also, you can only take the negadelphian attitude so much which is what you're greeted with when this team comes up in conversation in the Philadelphia area (and to a nerdier point, these boards). So when Hinkie seems to win a small battle, there's reason for optimism and cause for slight gloating. Because it justifies the fans patience throughout this rebuilding project.
I love what Hinkie is doing since he is following a path that I have wanted the Sixers to take for well over 10 years. Someone finally came in and is taking the long view, and trying to actually change the trajectory of the franchise. What had been happening for the longest time was just careerists coming in and trying to make the team better than last year. There was no vision whatsoever other than trying to compete every night.
That is how you should run a kids team where you want to impart wisdom to kids and ensure that they are having fun each year, but it isn't how you should run an nba franchise.
We finally have an ownership group that isn't looking at year to year results, but is actually trying to say that we want to go from a doormat to a contender in 5 years, and we are going to follow this path and give it time. No panicking, and no shortcuts allowed.
Pick a guy with a vision(Hinkie), and give him the resources and support to carry it out. Then get out of his way.
