I think the issue is fit. Kobe is always one injury away. Randle and Russ's games may not translate too well in the NBA, and they are in the western conference. I can understand the concern.

They won't be good, but they won 21 game and upgraded their roster noticeably (unless Russel is a huge bust, which I don't think he is). I wouldn't be surprised it they won somewhere between 25 and 30 games.

They have a bunch of ball dominant perimeter players, not even one efficient scorer (Williams is the closest thing to that), 0 spacing, and not great length or agility defensively.
Plus Kobe wanting to get back his status, a bottom 3 coach and weak minded guys like Hibbert...

They are going to be really bad.

They thought they would get a top tier free agent this year as well. As did the Knicks.

Yeah, but Kobe being there was going to prevent anyone from signing, and everyone not in the Laker exec offices knew that. No one wants to play with Kobe anymore except his boy Rondo. Next year, no Kobe. Impediment, removed. They are still the Lakers. The odds are good the pick conveys this year, anyway.

I feel good that the Lakers pick will convey this year, but they MIGHT be a bottom 3 team record wise which would make lottery night extra nerve wracking.

Plus, it is protected for the top 3 next year as well. It isn't unprotected until the following season.

If this is how the Kings are going to use Cousins that pick swap could end up looking good. Starting with Koufos and he is just hanging around the 3 point line on offense. He shot 8 3 pointers last season total. 2 in this first quarter alone.

I just see no chance in hell that the Lakers are top 3 worst team in league. Of course any non playoff team can win the lottery, so you neevr know with our luck, but I'm pretty positive we'll get it this year.

To be a bottom 3 team Kobe would have to go down with an injury, but that is very possible, and maybe even likely given how the last few seasons have gone.

It will take the Lakers a couple of seasons to be good again (not even great).
Atm they only have Randle, Clarkson and Russell as building stones.
That's not very impressive.

It's not even an attractive idea to FA's it seems.

The pick will be very nice, I'm sure.

Who are all these teams the Lakers are better than? I can only name 2 teams they should be better than...The Blazers and Sixers.

I agree with you. I suppose I should have stated it by saying that the only way for them not to be a bottom 3 team would be for Kobe to pull them out of there, but that he is likely to not be able to do that anymore due to age or injury.

I agree that they are one of the worst teams in the league.

The league isn't going to be such a black hole at the bottom this year. The only pathetically bad team will probably be the Sixers. I suspect we'll be the only team with a sub-20 win total.

Considering the Lakers play in the West I think they will have a worse record than the Sixers. Just look at the rosters of the Clippers, Spurs, Warriors, and Rockets. They are insane. That's 16 losses right there.

I think there's no way in hell the Lakers have a worse record than the Sixers.

Roy Hibbert
Lou Williams
DeAngelo Russell
Brandon Bass
Julius Randle

Their additions alone give them more NBA caliber players than we have on our entire roster.

There is always a team that is expected to not make the playoffs, but not expected to completely collapse and win fewer than 20 games, that surprises and does in fact collapse.

The Lakers have some talented individuals, but they still stink.

Just two years ago, there wasn't a single team with less than 20 wins. With the exception of us, all 5 of the bottom feeders made strides to get better. There's not many 30+, 40+, or 50+ win teams expected to take a plummet. The Blazers are the only team I can think of. And Dame Lillard surely can lead a team to more than 20 wins.

I think that the Lakers, Kings, Blazers, and Nuggets are all on collapse watch, but we are the worst team most likely, and that is ok with me. As long as Okafor and Noel are making strides I don't need wins.

Last year was supposed to be the last year that we were a bottom 3 team, but unfortunately, due to Embiid's foot, we extend it another year.

It's kind of crazy to think we have 3 cracks at #1-3, and the best case scenario is ending up with #1, #2, #4, and #11. It'd be smart to keep expectations low, but it's going to be fun this season with so many relevant games lol. Boston, Denver and Philly will own the draft next year. As it gets closer to the draft, I think it'll be important for Hinkie to scour the market and see if some of these picks can be rolled over into future picks. Just my prediction before the season begins:

#3 - I see either the 76ers or the Kings get this spot. We were handed this spot 2 years in a row, so why not another go.
#6 - The Lakers win just enough games to finish with the 5th worst record, but they get jumped by a team behind them (maybe the Kings? lol)
#16 - Miami #7 seed in the East.
#23 - Thunder gets #28, but the Warriors get a case of a championship hangover and struggle a bit.

I'm tired of getting the leftovers of the top two teams. I think this is the year we break through and get #1.

Apparently Rondo & Karl isn't getting along too well.
