Props to Evan Turner for turning his career around. He was in danger or being done for after that disastrous Indiana tenure.

We now live in a world where Evan Turner makes 17+ million a year. I think that's the new worst contract of this funny money off season.

I think these contracts are very bad for the league as they basically set guys up for life and give them no incentive to do much of anything aside from show up for practice and games. Dudes are now free to not lift a finger during the offseason since even bench players will now have $15+ million a year in annual salary.

And the other option would be give all the TV money to the owners instead?

With money like this evaluating a guy's character and work ethic does become paramount. Some guys will coast while others will try to justify the big contract or use all that cash to get themselves in a world of trouble.

No, I think a portion of the money should be given to the retired NBA players who actually built the league over the past 25-30 years. I also think there shouldn't be a max on individual contracts so that players who are truly responsible for the bulk of the profits (ie Lebron, Durant, Curry, Kobe, etc) can make $50-60 million a year or whatever since those guys are basically carrying the league financially.

What's going on now is analogous to handing out equal bonus checks to a sales team of 50 people even though only 10 of those people are responsible for 90% of the profits generated.

ET gets 70 million, the apocalypse is upon us. Thats like paying my vacuum 70 million for picking up 25% of the dog hair on my carpet.

I think you are right, you will see some players be lax after signing that big contract, but that is just human nature. But even before this TV deal you had guys making large sums who dogged it and others no matter how much they made still played and played hard because that is who they are. So nothing will changes just the amount of money these guys will make. And it's America so God Bless them.

I like your analogy and you are right, but it works the other way too. Out of the 30 teams that play in the NBA how many do you care to watch night in night out? Probably less than 1/2 of them.

I'm sure all the big market teams and a few of the other exciting teams could say. Look we basically made the NBA we deserve a bigger piece of the TV revenue. How do you think that would go over with the other 20+ owners? Not to well but would they be wrong?

As far as giving money to the retired players. I know the NBA cares......but they don't care that much !

If ATL manages to clear space to re-sign Horford, they'll have an interesting lineup

PG: Dennis Schröder
SG: Kyle Korver | Kent Bazemore
SF: Paul Millsap
PF: Al Horford
C: Dwight Howard

Kind of a glimpse of our future (?) if we go with:

SF: Ben Simmons
PF: Jahlil Okafor
C: Joel Embiid

Looks like they'll forego the jumbo set.

Yeah Milsap isn't a SF. Surprised noone mentioned our potential involvement. We are one of the few teams with cap space. The Suns can't even fit Milsap salary under their cap.

I would have zero interest in Milsap but we could facilitate a three team trade. We could also absorb splitter and Theo and Mike Scott asumming the Hawks want to do something else like take a run at Durant.

Honestly, the amount of money they have tied to the center position is questionable.

That's okay, neither do they. Biyombo and Ibaka would have made a lot more sense when they had Skiles coaching them. If then. who the hell is going to score down there? Will Vuc be moved?

The Magic are trying to "win now". And they will get the playoffs now. However they are the definition of a treadmill team with no superstar talent, so they have a few 2nd round trips and maybe an ECF trip in their future if they are lucky. Nothing past that though. Not a real contender unless Aaron Gordon, Evan Fournier, and/or Mario Hezonja magically morphs into a superstar.

Will they?

CLE
TOR
ATL
MIA
BOS
DET
IND
CHA
NYK
MIL

are all better teams right now than ORL imo.

If the Wizards get Horford, that'll make them a much better team and most likely put them back in the playoffs.
