Since this thread was not very popular this season it will change from a yearly thread to simply a league thread.

The Official Portuguese Primeira Liga Thread

Please continue to discuss the league here.

Thanks.

I watched Benfica full in both Fenerbahce matches and this match.

Porto against PSG twice and this match.

Galatasaray would destroy these both teams. I thought that Porto and Benfica are really strong teams but what I saw from them is just awful. There is no way I would put Portuguese League in top 5 league ever.

i don't think anybody could put portuguese league top 5, other than benfica and porto it's bucket full of suck. those two teams have some talented players though.

Who said it was top 5? EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A, Ligue 1 is the top 5 and it drops off from there.

Because of Porto, Benfica, and Sporting to an extent, the Portuguese league is somewhere in the group outside of the top 5 with Brazil, Turkey, etc.

If Arabs hadn't bought PSG, people would have put Portugal League ahead of Ligue 1.

Sponsor of Portuguese second division drops demands for 10 Chinese to start

A Chinese company that agreed to sponsor the Portuguese second division has been forced to row back on its demands that 10 Chinese players be included in the starting line-ups of the top teams following a national outcry.

The move was criticised by the Portuguese players’ union, which argued that players would not be selected on merit, and it was considered that such a demand would be illegal anyway.

The Portuguese Liga has indicated that it is open to the exchange of players and that clubs may receive money for playing with Chinese players, but that no team is obligated to use them.

The Chinese LED light manufacturer Ledman is also sending three assistant coaches to work with the clubs.

Ledman describes itself as “the official sponsor of Chinese Super League and the strategic partner of Chinese Football Association”.
