Indeed!! Look at this "transfer team" :o 8-)

V. Baia 8M

Bosingwa 20M
Ricardo Carvalho 30M
Pepe 30M
P. Ferreira 20M

Maniche 16M
Deco 15M
B. Alves 22M

Anderson 30M
Falcao 40M
Hulk 60M

And I left out Lisandro, Quaresma, Lucho... and in contrast to Arsenal, they actually win trophies

Add in the money they make in the CL every season...the club must be really wealthy. :-D

They got less than 60M for Hulk but you can add the 13M Chelsea paid for 9 months of AVB

Can't forget that a big chunk of those transfer fees went to third parties that are the reason Porto is able to bring in the players they do at the low prices that they do.

Moutinho will get them another 20 million, if Jackson Martinez keeps scoring for them he'll be worth a fair bit as well.

This is what I don't understand. Jackson was a low risk high reward player, but the big clubs always seem to afraid to invest on a guy that is not "proven". Porto gladly scoops these kind of players and then sells them for twice or tripple the price they invested.

Again Porto also doesn't pay the agencies that own these players for their full rights while most big clubs would since they don't want to deal with all of the third party ownership. So for a big club to bring in these players before they've proven themselves in Europe would mean paying a lot more than Porto does to bring them over.

It was heavily reported that Jackson would cost anywhere from 9-12 million before Porto got him. There were rumors of him going to Liverpool. I understand your point about Porto, but I still believe some clubs fail to do their homework on players like Jackson Martinez

Think it's way too early to be saying clubs have failed to do their homework on him. He played 4 games in Portugal. Borini is nearly 5 years younger than him and he only cost Liverpool around 3M more than Martinez. Also Giroud cost similar amount to Borini and he led Ligue 1 in scoring so I can see Arsenal went for him. I think all three were good buys tbh

I was just using him as an example. I didn't say the other buys were bad buys, but that Porto seems to be able to find great talent from S. America because they are willing to take a chance. Martinez scored 20 goals in the Mexican league which is a competitive league so I say he is a good buy for 9 mill

Cheap shot really, not exactly a powerhouse league. They'd win nothing in the EPL

BTW, as a German, our last trophy was in 2001 (Bayern Munich CL), so I know what it feels like... :banghead: :curse: :noway:

Edit: holy crap, with 1 CL, 1 SC, 2 EL wins, Porto in the last 10 years has single-handedly outgunned the output of the entire German Bundesliga since 1998

The Europa league doesn't really count, and that last photo is Atletico Madrid, I believe.
