Definitely wouldn't say career-defining. What's career defining is that he does this more than any other player in the modern era. All the el clasico goals last year were (imo) more career defining, but still a brilliant performance from him.

Ronaldo did what he does best, but Moutinho and the defense looked better than usual today.

Meh.

Of course he would have been trashed if he disappeared. He was expected to perform and his country was expected to win. We aren't talking about an average player.

Then people have to stop being hypocrites and give the guy his props.

Jordan never fully understood basketball. He had the lowest basketball IQ of any NBA "superstar" in history.

thank you.
it's like saying "lebron is the best, he took miami to the playoffs".
ronaldo is in this category of players where the standards are just a bit higher.

ain't gonna happen sorry. players like ronaldo need titles, nothing else.

People still talk about Messi's 5 goal game against Leverkusen in the qualifying stages of CL the year that Chelsea won the cup. I doubt they'll mention it 40 years from now. But for now, it's incredibly fun to watch. There's nothing else to say other than that both are great players and we're lucky to watch them.

congrats to france for getting through.

hey, i didn't say i don't enjoy watching him.
i just didn't agree with posters on here saying that this is "career-defining" and that he should be ballon d'or winner because of this game etc.
that's a HUGE difference.
okay?

good football tonight, can't wait till next summer.

Agreed, like I said what's career defining is that he does this all year round.

WC will be nuts if this is how we've been getting over qualifiers

France had a goal wrongly disallowed just before that.

Mr Grant Hill wrote:come on boys, you DO realize that these games only take place because portugal finished 2nd behind russia, right?

not taking anything away from cr7, he's great, obviously. but 2nd behind russia isn't great at all. nothing career-defining about it.

Russia area a good team who really strangled everybody else in that group and managed to frustrate portugal. Portugal are also a much better match up for the top teams than they are lower level teams and teams like Russia who don't always dominate possession so can effectively sit deep and counter.

Mandzukic scoring the important 1-0 for Croatia and then saying "Good Bye World Cup!"

SMH.
