Player of the game is Neuer, like someone said, Algeria barely came out of a terrible group and Germany struggled. Nice that they got the win but I would be concerned.

Does anyone know where I can find stats for distance covered? It seemed like Germans ran twice as much and they still looked fresh.

Would be great if someone could make the Quarter Final thread to look like the other ones.

I'm too busy today to make one.

That was a great game of football, well played Algeria they gave everything. They really wanted that meeting with France

Great effort from them but at least they got a goal, they deserve all the plaudits they're going to receive. That Brahimi guy looks a player though

Wish that pass from the halfway line to Sulimani wasn't intercepted by Boateng, would've been pass of the tournament.

The team needs him at the 6 even more than we do at FB since at FB we actually have some capable alternatives, at the 6 the only player without a glaring flaw for the position is either still a teenager, or recently turned 20. Even with Jogi leaving Jantschke and Jung at home both Durm and Grosskreutz could get the job done if Jogi only had the balls to call on them.

Khedira & Schweinsteiger can easily work together. They did before someone came up with that stupid idea to play Lahm in midfield and they could do so again. If both are not fit enough to play 90 just sub Kramer in. What he makes in mistakes he will make up for in running additionally.

Lahm doesnt have the skillset to play DM, he isnt a playmaker and he isnt a destroyer either.

At FB he is class, in DM one of many.

Do you still think Sami and Basti as a double pivot is a tenible option with Mertesacker's slow ass in our defense? Both need to get forward and that leaves the middle exposed right infront of our CBs. Jogi really is the ultimate one step forward, one step back, coach. He actually did well at half time to bring Schurrle on to run the channel opposite Mueller more directly to press back their FBs, and he did well to tell his FBs to cheat back defensively to cover for their lack of speed against their wingers so that they no longer killed us on the flanks, and we had our best spell of the match. Crisper in possession and tight defensively with few losses of possession in dangerous ways and less space for the algerians to break into. But then Mustafi gets hurt and instead of bringing on a FB who could provide similar defensive cover without sacrificing all attacking guile he moves Lahm out of midfield into that position and that gaps for algeria to counter reappear until, amusingly, Basti gassed in ET and with the early goal started to cheat back defensively.

I love Khedira and he had a strong performance, but bringing him on instead of Grosskreutz or Durm there was a mistake that brought algeria back into the game, almost cost us and has left our team very dseperated in possession with the attacker all hovering around and making runs into the box and hte backs way back there. Lahm linked us there and prevented that from happening. This game should show exactly why I feel we need Lahm in midfield.

On to your point about Lahm as a 6 I disagree immensely, Biscuits is clearly the other best lone holder in the world and he is also neither a deep lying playmaker, nor a destroyer, what he does bring is amazing positioning defensively, great tackling ability, and most importantly with the ball he is great at hanging back and recycling possession, letting the 5 in front of him rotate and swap fluidly, while also having great possession abilities to handle pressing. Lahm excels at those exact same things, the only difference is Biscuits is bigger and stronger while Lahm is faster and quicker. On a team looking to dominate possession with high, aggressive pressing and endless attacking pressure Lahm is perfect for the lone holding role he's asked to play for our NT and makes the players in front of him more efficient and free, and frankly looked better there today than he did at RB.

You are aware that Löw is allowed to tell Khedira and Schweinsteiger that one of them needs to stay back if the other one is attacking right?

I know that Khedira/Schweinsteiger isnt ideal but its much better than completely exposing the FB positions.

Agreed, Kramer did look well, but notice how he was running way up the pitch, that's what he does bring energy all over the pitch, he doesn't sit back and cover for the others and he looked so good because Sami laid back once he came on, covering defensively and saving his energy.

All of our "natural" midfielders are natural box to box guys who have to get forward or Kroos, who's slowly on the pirlo trajectory.

Schurrle was a really great move though, gotta give jogi that, having him and Mueller both drifting from the channels made us a lot more dangerous and pushed their FBs back hard. Such a shame Reus got hurt because he and Mueller would've been amazing as a winger-forward pair as I've been begging for for three years now.

Seems like good 'ol times.

Germany advances and no one knows how that happened.

Just a terrible game and I don't know how many turnovers our midfield produced today.

When your main attribute is energy and you're going up against an exhausted Algeria side, he better have done well
