French Open 2014 (25 May to 8 June)

Post#1 » by mrpoetryNmotion » Fri May 30, 2014 9:16 pm

Might as well make a thread for it.

Rafa has been looking good despite looking very vulnerable in the previous clay court tourneys this year. Really, after winning the US Open last year he has just dipped, noticeably.

Stan out early. Same with Grigor Dmitrov.

Djokovic is the favorite, supposedly.

I'm wondering if we'll finally have an american or two into the second week.

Isner is shockingly into the fourth round.

Was hoping Donald would make it through, too, after forcing the fifth set but it wasn't meant. I really wonder if Sock will ever turn into anything. Still just 21 but I really don't think he has it..despite being our only hope for the time being..until our juniors come of age.

Monfils is fun to watch.

Gulbis up a break in the 5th against Federer.

I'd also be surprised if Djoker doesn't roll over Jo-Willy in straight sets. Tsonga has looked like trash every time he has gone against Djoker in my more recent memory. His backhand just gets picked apart and he loses confidence.

Tsonga is so disappointing.

Djokovic might just breeze through, here. Raonic's game is meh outside of his outstanding serve, and Berdych/Gulbis are unreliable.

The eventual Nadal/Ferrer matchup should be a good one given their match earlier this season.

Genie with Sharapova over a decade ago.

Even at 15 Maria was just freakishly tall.

Ferrer is a joke in slams. Big 4 should just get a bye whenever they match up.

Interested to see Gulbis against Djokovic. Ernie is an insane person, he could really push Novak to the brink or he could win like 5 games in the whole match. Murray has no chance against Nadal on clay.

Solid win from Sharapova despite the double faults (I've said that a lot).

Clay emerging as Sharapova's best surface is I think the most surface-shift for a player I've ever seen.

It makes me wonder how she's not a more dominant player on the other surfaces with her defensive improvement

Missed Sharapova's win today but I'll be sure to catch the men's final tomorrow. The semi's they played last year was incredible.

Also surprising to see clay as Sharapova's best surface. She's a contender for every slam and the only thing that's keeping her from winning more is her inconsistent serve and Serena lol

Knotted up at one a piece.

I feel as though Nadal gave away that first set with all those backhand errors. He had the momentum in the second set.

Djokovic has been very level so far.

Pathetic game from Djokovic to dump that 2nd set right before a tiebreak. He looks to be tired already. Feels like Nadal is going to roll him now but there's usually a few more twists and turns when these two play.

No doubt about it. Nadal is beasting and Djokovic looks weary. But I've seen this story before, too, when these guys play.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Nadal win it in four...nor to see him win it in five, but I think Nadal definitely takes it by the looks of things now.

Such a sad performance from Djokovic, he went mental midget mode in all the key moments after the 1st set. Couldn't even hold serve from 30-0 up at the end to make a possibly injured Nadal work for it.
