Wimbledon 2014 (June 23 - July 6)

Might as well get this thread up and running.

Sloan Stephens knocked out already on the women's side.

Djokovic the top seed on the men's side despite not being world #1.

Ferrer and Gulbis out early, which makes Djokovic's half a bit easier.

Rosol is playing out of his mind on first serves and the tiebreak ends with a double fault. He could've had Nadal in an ever bigger hole there.

Sharapova out, Nadal out. I'm calling it... Federer and Genie.

Nadal getting ousted by nobodies at majors are an annual thing (Kyrgios does seem to have loads of potential however). But seems like nobody mentions this when he's being anointed as GOAT. Even Djokovic consistently gets into the quarters, and that pales into comparison what Roger was able to accomplish with his semis streak.

I think Kyrgios is going to be a beast. I was very impressed with him at the Aussie Open and his forehand was doing damage today.

i'd rather consistently win titles that make qf/sf!
djokovic has won 1 of the last 9 slams.
federer has won 1 of the last 17 slams.
and i know how bad that feels, i keep losing in the qf and sf too, to the same girls each time for 2 years

Murray demolished. Djokovic down 2-1. This got crazy fast.

I could see Grigor taking out Djoker. I could also see Raonic beating Federer, too. But I'm not as confident in Raonic.. he still is a limited player and a young guy like Kyrgios couldn't exploit his weaknesses.

i think djokovic will beat federer in the final, because:

a) federer's new racquet has taken the sting out of his forehand (while its improved the control of his backhand), which he needs to beat djokovic in best-of-5 :wavefinger:

b) djokovic has had better preparation, with dimitrov being a lot better preparation for playing federer than raonic was for playing djokovic :eek2:

Genie's game seems perfect for the grass, it's like she can read the fast balls better than others

Fun match between Djokovic and Dimitrov. Grigor is going to be a big factor in these tournaments in the coming years.

Grigor looks like he will live up to his promise. Definitely looked like the better player despite losing those two tiebreaks and the match.

Also, is this the first time Federer has met Djokovic in a major final?

No, Fed beat Djokovic in the 2007 US Open final

Federer is playing very well right now, his serve and backhand look better than they have in a while. Djokovic is playing great though too. Djokovic has the edge but Fed has a chance if he can volley well on Sunday and win alot of quick points.

Poor Genie. Absolutely destroyed by Kvitova. :(

Just too much power, great serving and perfect placement of shots today and all the points were like 3-4 strokes or less. Genie never had a chance to react to such power.

With such a game you would thinkn Kvitova would have much more success in her career so far, but this is only her second slam title and second finals. Other than these two victories at Wimbledon her other results have been pretty average at grandslams. Why did she have to play so well today against Genie?

As prestigious as Wimbledon is, playing on one of their courts late in the tournament has gotta suck since you're essentially playing on two surfaces.

djokovic doesn't attack federer's backhand slice, whereas nadal attacks it constantly
but djokovic is still winning this, because federer can't seem to return enough
