I've been reading your clutchfans thread and find it hilarious. First, we aren't in the same situation as MN with Kevin Love. Dragic actually likes playing for Phoenix and hasn't demanded a trade lol. He picked us in UFA once (and whine all day about your precious player option but he took less money to come to Phoenix given some other offers, was drafted here, and probably isn't looking to go back to the franchise that wanted to pay Jeremy Lin more) and there's no reason to think he won't again. Besides, we can negotiate with him before anyone else and would have the cap space to ensure he stays.
Second, Terrence Jones and a first is a crap offer. All of your posters know it too because they throw that out there for just about every rumored player there is. We already have a better PF in Markieff and only 1 team in the entire league has as many firsts as us in the next few drafts. The truth is that our teams are bad trade matches. You could offer your entire team outside Harden and Howard and I, and most fans, wouldn't be happy with moving Dragic for it. Teams don't just give away all-nba players for a backup PF, who was arguably the worst defensive starting PF in the league last year, and a late first just because they have good players at the same position.
Third, we start 2 PGs, so signing Thomas doesn't mean we aren't planning on keeping them. People said that last year and we kept both Dragic and Bledsoe and they were awesome together. By winshare they were the best backcourt in the NBA aside from GS, and they are certainly that now with Thomas as well. You have to evaluate the roster given it's a 2 PG system instead of a 1 PG 1 SG system. Teams have 4 rotation players between the 1 and 2. Phoenix has the same (Bledsoe, Dragic, Thomas, Green) when you look at it properly through that lense. Via your fan base's view, then yes Dragic did play "SG" primarily, but really it's a 2 PG system, and not only was he not unhappy with it, but he had his best year ever. Ennis was not brought in to play immediately. That pick makes sense as a team that is taking BPA because they have 3 firsts in the draft and 5-6 others in the next 2 drafts.
Fourth, when Bledsoe and Dragic were healthy, we had a top 4 record in the West. No reason to think that couldn't happen next year, so this whole late lottery BS is just that.
Fifth, the cap is expected to climb to 80 mil in 2 years, so paying $31-35 mil for the best backcourt in the league isn't that unreasonable.
Sixth, McDonough is not a moron. He didn't draft Ennis or sign Thomas so that he would be forced to accept a crap trade for his All-NBA player. If PG minutes was the issue your fan base makes it out to be, he would've simply drafted a poor defensive PF in the first place instead of longing for Terrence homeless-stomp Jones.
HTowns Finest wrote:Hi Suns fans, I come in peace. I just have a quick question to ask you guys about your PG situation as a Houston Rocket fan. Are you guys ok with spending $35 million on your guard rotation in 2015 with no stars at either forward or center slot and only competing for the 7th or 8th seedin the west? Because that's exactly where you guys would be. You aren't keeping those 4 guards any more than we were keeping Parsons after signing Ariza. PHX needs picks or forwards/centers with potential. Luckily, we have both. Thoughts guys? Thanks!
