Brandon Knight to re-sign with PHX for $70 million/5 years

Post#1 » by rsavaj » Sun Jun 28, 2015 11:36 pm

AKA the Bledsoe deal

http://www.brightsideofthesun.com/2015/6/28/8859903/report-phoenix-suns-to-re-sign-brandon-knight-to-same-5-70-deal-they

Dave King wrote:Expect Knight NOT to sign until the Suns have already spent their cap space on free agents to improve the team. The Suns currently have just under $13 million to spend as long as Knight only counts $8.9 million as a "cap hold" on his Bird Rights.

The Suns can spend anything on the free agent market up their cap, and then exceed the cap in the re-signing of Knight to a larger annual contract than the $8.9 million cap hold.

This deal will look better in a few years. Either way I'm glad we've got him secured.

I said yesterday that I was expecting a contract around $70M / 5 years for Knight....I think it's good and fair for both sides.
I really like him for Phoenix, because with the cap going up that large contracts are gonna be too valuable in a few years.
Great news!

Seems very reasonable. This year will determine who wins out, Bledsoe or Knight. Both on reasonable contracts.

I like the deal.
Glad its done and over with and they can move forward with the trades and free agent acquisitions it will take to make this a perennial playoff team. This is a good sign. Adding a wing guy like Carroll or Green would make a nice solid three guard rotation. Plus another back up PG and Archie (unless traded) with Booker. Beginnings of a nice guard rotation.

So we won Knight trade too. No high pick given up, and Knight signed-up on a reasonable extension. Nice job again McD

It's what I was expecting. I'm not 100% sold but hoping for the best.

Its reported on Hoopshype and Arizonasportsfans too.
Anyways, its expected.

But I also heard that Lakers was suppose to offer max as per July 1 midnight. Probably changed due to them drafting Russell and not trading for Cousins?

I made a post yesterday about whether he would accept 12M. I guess that answers the question :D

It's a good deal. He's been a pretty darn good player for being so young. I'm looking forward to seeing him and Bledsoe work together after some time to actually build on-court chemistry.
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

A lot of people think this is the highest paid back court. Bled 14 plus Knight 14 = 28 per year.

Kobe nearly equals that by himself at 25 per year.

What does Tony Parker plus Manu Ginobli cost? I think they both took old man discounts like Duncan, but I'm not sure.

Joe Johnson plus Deron Williams cost way more than KnightBlade

Chris Paul plus whoever?

Wes Matthews plus Damian Lillard will eventually cost more money.

Curry plus Thompson will cost a lot more when Curry signs his next deal.

There are probably other backcourts that I'm not remembering that will be pricier than Suns.

Gonna wait til it's official, and it all depends on who we take in free agency. If we get Love/Aldridge, then this signing is a definite A++++. Now if we sign someone else like Millsap/Monroe, then okay, this deal is still a solid B to B+. If we sign someone like David Lee/Amare Stoudemire as a filler, then this signing is a C-. Brandon Knight isn't a bad player or anything, but once we sign him, guess what, this is the roster for the next 3 to 4 years. We have minimal room for improvements via the following two years of free agency. This signing can potentially bury us in mediocrity depending on who else we sign. Again, if we get Love/Aldridge on a two to four year deal, then this signing is BEAST MODE because we are locked in for a true playoff/contending team.

Even though it's the same deal as Bledsoe, I love the fact that we didn't have to go through all the whole showdown with his team like we did with Bledsoe. Knight got what he asked for from Milwaukee and we got what we wanted (I think).

In a few years, this deal will look great

Solid. Glad to get it done already. Nice that he got the same as Bledsoe which means zero animosity between them, though I don't think Knight would have any if he had signed for less...he is more proven than Bledsoe was when we signed him though. Solid move by the FO giving him the same deal though.
