I think it's great for the sport. I've had enough of the forced rivalries and fake hype. Give me some of that real old-fashioned hate. Embrace the dark side, Bones!

When keeping it real goes wrong.

It's good for the fans of the sport but I don't think it's good for the sport itself. MMA have only just come into the mainstream not long ago and it needs to project itself as a professional organisation and situations like this kind of pushes it back to it's old "barbaric" roots.

Why were 10 guys holding DC back and 1 guy trying to hold back Jones?

Jones is probably going to get murdered even more, I wouldn't mess with a guy that fights Cain 3x a week. Jones looks a little weak in that scuffle, I don't think he'll win more than 1 round

I have to say though that Anik trying to hold Jones back was pretty funny. Too bad it wasn't Dana.

That wasn't Jon Anik.

The people who still view it as barbaric are always going to see it that way. MMA's popularity has already peaked and become somewhat stale (IMO). We need two titans of the sport (Cormier less in name, but he's got the skills) to really set the stage and deliver on an epic performance. A quick scuffle at some shopping mall (IDK where they were) is a good way to get the ball rolling.

I don't think it has peaked. It's definitely hit A peak and it's now sort of plateaued but I still think MMA still has potential to rise further.

We won't turn the people who thinks it's barbaric, it's more the casual viewers who are on the fence about watching it a sport which is by nature, barbaric and seeing things like this go down which make them question the professionalism of this "sport". I think this is bad for the sport's push towards a professional image.

+1

Love how Jones wrapped it up with "thank you guys for having us." Twice.

That was at the MGM grand. As for it being bad for the sport, I don't see it. A lot of people said that Muhammad Ali was bad for boxing back in the day. It's the same people who say that Chael Sonnen was bad for the sport.

Definitely agree. Real or fake- this incident will probably mean another 100K-150K buys. This will definitely help the UFC bottom line in a year where UFC PPV buyrates were much lower than past years. I can see this PPV doing close to a million after this stunt.

Between that and the Sportscenter segment, it worked on me. Then again, I won't be buying the event because I don't buy any, and if I did, I wouldn't be on the fence, because I already think it is a great fight and card.

To be fair, he's come a long way from preaching at us 5 minutes before wrapping his car around a telephone pole while drunk driving two random girls who were not his wife around.

So I know I said it's good for the sport, but with that being said, both fighters apologizing and the UFC fining both is absolutely the right PR move. The UFC needs to make it clear that if you do this you'll get fined. If guys see this as increasing attention for the fight and every other stare down turns into a scuffle, that would be bad for the sport, especially if someone got injured.

I think a standard fine, like 50K would be appropriate. It won't hurt Jon and Daniel too much, but the average fighter can't afford that.

People on Sherdog are arguing who was in the right and who was in the wrong in this scuffle, lol. I know Chael Sonnen isn't the most popular fighter on this forum, but remember when at the stare down Anderson Silva hit his face with his shoulder, and he just kept staring him down and told Dana that they shouldn't fine Silva? I know Sonnen ended his career by pissing hot, but there's a lot of things he did right. It's like Abraham Lincoln said, "The men I have met who have few vices have few virtues as well."

No offense intended at all, but do you ever not bring up Chael?
