UFC 189 (July 11): Aldo/Conor + Lawler/Rory!

So what happened today in this 'world tour'? Both Lawler and Rory were talking about how the fans needed to learn to respect Aldo. I think Rory said it upset him and he wanted to defend Jose, Lawler similar stuff. I guess the fans were calling Aldo names, saying he was going to get his head knocked off, etc.

War Aldo! I still think there is an argument for him being p4p best in the world.

Wasn't the Brazilian fans this bad or worse when Conor was doing that solo Q&A sesh in Brazil leading up to Aldo/Mendes?

I always thought Aldo was a top 5 P4P guy. I always had Aldo, GSP, Bones, Silva and whoever was a winning champion at the time. With GSP and Silva gone, it's a pretty clear top 1-2 with Aldo and Bones.

Definitely hoping Aldo wins, I think for the first time (guess Conor has had an impact)! Not that I dislike Aldo, was just always rooting for the other guy.

I'm not sure, I didn't watch that whole Q&A or whatever with Conor in Brazil. I do know they were chanting youre going to die to him though. :lol:

But this wasn't even in Ireland, this was in NYC. Plus brazilian fans aren't exactly the standard for good fans imo. But then again there is something sort of creepy (at least to me) about any group of people that are just superrr nationalistic, although we see it everywhere.

I watched the majority of it and half of the "questions" from the Brazilian fans were in the same vein as the questions going Aldo, "how are you going to feel when he beats you" etc.

It was pretty cool to see guys like Conor take the heat without breaking a sweat

I kinda wish Aldo went at it a bit more but I guess he's more respectful outside the cage. What Conor has done on the tour has been very disrespectful, from touching Aldo (which apparently is a big no-no in Brazilian culture) to grabbing his belt when Aldo isn't around to straight up taking his belt at a press conference now. I'm sure Aldo would be fine but I hope he doesn't let this get to him.

It irritates me how Dana is smiling the whole time. I understand the ufc is going to put this on an ad and we will see it 500,000 times before the fight, but at least PRETEND that jumping up and taking something from your opponent or slapping them on the back or whatever the case may be isn't encouraged. Also maybe pretend to have a little respect for your longtime champion and possible the best fighter in your sport. Same thing with Jones/Cormier brawl, don't sit there and BS about how disappointed you are about it and then play it on commercials for two months.

Instead of grabbing Aldo's belt, like Dana should be, he holds Aldo back with a smile while Conor has his moment. Like wtf, he's your only FW champion ever and you let a challenger do that?

It's a lose-lose situation for Aldo.

Either let Connor to continue to embarrass and punk you or throw a punch and get a heavy fine (ala jones-cormier brawl)

Aldo is unbeaten in 10 years and is undefeated in the UFC. 7-0 (all title-fights). He's letting Connor get away with a lot of barking :lol:

The win is the money he's gonna make. I couldn't estimate how much more than his average UFC fight but you'd have to imagine that if it's at all in proportion to this added interest it's many factors more.

We'll see how it plays out. Its pretty well known that the perk of Aldo's contract was ppv points, but he only gets a certain amount per buy after a minimum number of buys. I don't know if he has EVER passed that threshold. I'm assuming this fight does well but who knows what that floor is? Yea mma fans are hyped about the fight but outside of the gym I don't I know anyone who has any idea who Conor McGregor is tbh.

He's just happy because Conor can promote himself*, which is fortunate since Dana isn't always that good at promoting.

* - though in a way that is completely unappealing to me personally.
