UFC Fight Night 76 (10/24): lol (Ireland)

Post#1 » by CPT » Fri Aug 14, 2015 1:09 am

Joseph Duffy vs. Dustin Poirier
Stipe Miocic vs. Ben Rothwell
Bubba Bush vs. Garreth McLellan
Tom Breese vs. Cathal Pendred
Scott Askham vs. Krzysztof Jotko
Reza Madadi vs. Norman Parke
Paddy Holohan vs. Louis Smolka
Nicolas Dalby vs. Darren Till

Legit have no idea who Joseph Duffy is, though the name sounds somewhat familiar. Even seeing a picture and looking at his Fight Finder didn't help.

Miocic vs. Rothwell is actually pretty good, as far as HWs go. I didn't know it had been made though. Was thinking they would put that on the Werdum/Cain card for insurance when Cain gets injured.

Bubba Bush needs to fight Colby Covington for the Create-a-Fighter Name Championship.

Duffy is the dude who beat Conor. Actually pretty good, boxed pro for awhile too. Ground game is slick, has a few wins in the ufc already. He's Irish, but he's by far less annoying than the Irish dudes on Conor's team.

I doubt he's ready for the likes of Poirier.

Ah, that'd be why I've heard the name but didn't recognize his face or remember his UFC fights.

Couldn't be bothered to scroll all the way down, lol.

Is this real life? I just read that Poirier is 2:1 dog? wtf.

Would not have guessed that. Though Duffy does have a win over the GOAT...

It's simple MMA math. Seriously, I like Poirier, but I'd probably give Duffy the edge, thinking he'll lure Poirier in with Dustin's aggression and then hit him with a sharp, precise shot. Poirier's boxing is pretty good, but I think his footwork leaves something to be desired, and it's partially from his over-desire. If Poirier pulls this off, he's pretty interesting at this weight. 3 straight wins over talented, albeit somewhat unproven guys.

Date in the title, or anywhere? It's Oct. 24th, apparently. Had to look it up.

"Probably giving Duffy the edge" isn't favoring him at more than 2:1 though.

Just surprised by the odds.

If Duffy wins he'll be a great match for Conor's first fight at 155 after he loses to Aldo.

I was joking about the simple MMA math part.

Yeah, Poirier is worth a play at those odds for sure. I favour Duffy too but that's ridiculous.

Oh ****, no. That was really the only interesting fight. An amazing one, two colossus'.

I couldn't pick Duffy out of a line-up, don't know who he is.

Worst card ever, yeah? Poirier turned down Parke.

Yeah, that's a tough fight on a couple days notice, so I don't blame him. Though I was kind of surprised. Poirier always seemed like a guy who would fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. Ross Pearson, Benson Henderson, and Paul Felder have all tossed their names into the main event ring to save the card, but it looks like the UFC is just going to stick with what they have.
