"Great, competitive fight" is what someone would be saying if this was 2017.

A friend of mine is trying to get tickets for this and is trying to convince me to go. I don't know if it's worth it to see a 30 second fight. I know there's the other women's title fight, but that division is so underdeveloped the belt isn't really established as a big thing. I'm afraid that they'll count on Ronda being a draw and won't have any other good fights on the card. Now on the other hand if Showtime makes him comeback on this card I'd be excited as hell to go.

I hate this match. I hate when really elite level prospects are thrown into title fights far too soon because their division is shallow. Tate was the much better option.

This is kind of what happened with McMann. Rushed in, gets schooled, and then goes on to be very average. You wonder if she would have been exposed before getting the Rousey fight if left to develop slowly, or if she would have kept winning, improving along the way, and been a real challenge to Rousey by now.

That's a perfect example. And a lot of fighters struggle to bounce back from that. Horoguchi got the same treatment at Flyweight.

Yep Horiguchi was the first thought I had but McMann is just as good an example.

I thought Bader vs Bones in an eliminator was silly too

It was. Not a title eliminator, but I thought matching up OSP and Cummins in a division as old and shallow as LHW was a mistake as well.

Well, if you say McMann can't fight Ronda because she's not ready and you say Holm can't fight Ronda because she's not ready, what do you do? Have Ronda fight hobbyist after hobbyist after hobbyist? Or make Rousey vs. Tate 3, 4, 5, and 6?

I mean, you have a good point but McMann had like 6 fights when she fought Ronda and Holm has like 9 now. Double digit fights isn't too much to ask for is it? More than 1 or 2 total ufc wins isn't either imo.

Having these women fight more than once a year would be a good start. The division outside of Rousey needs to be more active and allow some contenders to naturally emerge. When you have Rousey and Tate fight 3 times a year and everyone else fighting once, it presents a real problem. Nunes is someone that looked amazing her last fight out and if she was looking like that every 4 or 5 months, people would see her as a threat to Ronda. Instead, all the heat she has now will have died off when she fights again in 10 months.

You have a point, and that's kind of what I was getting at by asking if she would have been exposed before getting to Rousey.

It may not have been under the ideal conditions, but at least they got the fight, so I can understand it on that level. That said, I think there were credible alternatives at the time. It's not like McMann then or Holm now are big selling points. I'd actually guess the Tate fight would do better at this point.

Chael said that Holm is getting some heat in locker rooms because of how she's being promoted as a 17-time world champion. I thought that was interesting.
