Rizin Fighting World Grand Prix 2015 (12/29-31, Japan): Fedor, Aoki/Saku, HW GP, etc.

Post#1 » by CPT » Thu Oct 8, 2015 11:44 pm

So this is the NYE event Fedor will be fighting on. Latest rumour is Jaideep Singh, but people are also saying they are waiting for other guys with upcoming fights.

Sakuraba is fighting Shinya Aoki, which I'm oddly excited about. Not sure if it's MMA rules, grappling, or one of those weird exhibitions.

Not much else coming out of the press conference. There will be a HW GP starting on the 29th, finishing on the 31st.

The promotion will be using Pride rules.

At least Sak isn't fighting a KO artist I guess. Obviously that dude is a warrior, but there can't be too many people with less regard for their body. I remember in the metamoris countdown, he asked in the middle of his interview if the match had strikes or not. Like dude, how do you sign a contract without knowing that detail? lol.

Do you guys think that there's any chance in the future that UFC fighters who lost sponsorship money, have issues with the UFC, want to fight in Japan, are nostalgic about Pride, or want to juice would leave the UFC for this organization? Could they give Fedor a decent opponent?

I read Gabi Garcia would also be on this card somewhere.

Saku should be fighting a Gracie...any Gracie...hell, it's Japan, make it Kyra Gracie.

Gabi is indeed on it. They announced another chick, but not her opponent IIRC. The transformation Gabi has went through is pretty unbelievable btw.

I read on a grappling forum that she is still pushing 200 but no clue where said grappling forum poster got that.

Shawn Jordan didn't re-sign with the UFC, apparently his decision as much as anything (interesting in its own right). His contract ran out. Wants Fedor! That would be sellable. Competitive? I think so, in the sense that I could imagine each guy running away with it. Fedor's kill-strikes might pierce Jordan, Jordan's unbelievable athleticism might overwhelm Fedor. Don't think it would last long.
Hi love, bye love, I will miss my love.

^ Actually a pretty smart move for him and it would be a good pick up for Rizin. They're getting slammed with that 1-0 kickboxer rumour.

Would be an interesting fight, but they are never going to risk Fedor losing by putting him in with someone this game IMO.

I really want to see it, actually. A huge believer in the athletic superiority of American football players. Then again, Karelin / Fedor type of cold war Russian athleticism? Awesome clash.

I'd be pretty excited for Jordan vs. Fedor. Also, since this is all spectacle anyway, why is no one talking about Fedor vs. Couture here?
