The UFC are going to petty and try to drag this on as long as they can to stall his comeback elsewhere.

I'm thinking we might end up seeing GSP vs Rory Macdonald in Toronto or Montreal with Bellator. Regardless of the name attached to the event, That sells out in Canada. GSP is still the most recognizable face in MMA across the country, and he's beloved.

I know they probably wouldn't want to fight each other, but at the same time, it's the biggest fight outside the UFC around.
For Bellator, it would legitimize them as a brand. They would get so much exposure for the fighters fighting under them, they could really begin to build a platform from it if they played their cards right.

No way that happens. GSP instantly sells out any arena in Canada for Bellator. What does GSP/Rory even add to that? A sell-out is a sell-out. They wouldn't fight each other for a ufc title, no way they fight each other for a non title fight in freakin' bellator.

GSP vs CPT sells out any venue in Canada.

I'd absolutely love to see Aldo and GSP join Bellator. That would a huge seismic shift in MMA free agency.

Agreed.

(and I love that you call that uninviting concrete monstrosity I'm staring at right now by its proper name and not its corporate whore name).

I don't know how you wouldn't want to see all of GSP, Rory, Koreshkov, Lima, Page, Askren, etc. fight each other. Bellator+ at 145 to 170 and oddly enough 205 now, has pretty interesting match-up potential. It's more about the choices and platform, now. But mind you, Bellator's first ppv did 100k, which was better than expected. They're now getting mentioned on Sportscenter, and signings like GSP + Sonnen give them some notoriety and draw, at least in the interim. So they could sell out an arena and pull a solid # if it were UFC, it's just a matter of if it would be worth it or not in the end. GSP wouldn't come cheap, and his run would be short term at his age. The best thing for Bellator long run would be if he lost to MVP after a couple wins.

GSP vs. Koreshkov
McGeary vs. Rampage
Rory vs. Page
Shael vs. King Mo
Henderson vs. Thomson

should sell, especially if they get plenty of time on ESPN ahead of time to hype it. It would be expensive, though.

Bellator could offer GSP a % of revenue and more promotion of his sponsors in order to afford him.

The contract termination seems really suspect. His lawyer has even mentioned, "we'll see how things play out" in regards to the technicality he believes lets Georges terminate. My bet is he is not out, he fights next under teh UFC banner.

Hopefully this was in good faith at least, they actually want to fight elsewhere, and not just a negotiation tactic that whets everyone's desire for parity.

If it does have an effect. I kind of feel bad Cormier. He's a champ that needs all the help he can get (PPV numbers wise) and he was recently interviewed saying he had his fingers crossed that a GSP bout would be added to the crowd. Without GSP, it's not going to get the PPV numbers. Without GSP and with an "organised" boycott, those numbers are going to be ugly.

Wonder what kind of effect (if any) this will have.

UFC dropped the ball on this, definitely lost a lot of interest in the event. This event doesn't need GSP, but it needs another big fight. Right now I'm not going to the event because of GSP/the boycott, i'm not going simply because of the weak card

My guess is the GSP deal gets done in time for Toronto.

Bisping is saying that he has verbally agreed to fight GSP on this card and that UFC/GSP talks are still going on.

Honestly if his fight happens I hope GSP wins and retires. Otherwise Bisping will probably defend his belt next against Conor.

Yea, GSP/Bisping is the fight I'm thinking. Ariel's co-host dude asked him about Bisping fighting on this card and Ariel tried to dodge (my perception). Almost seemed like he knew something but wasn't at liberty to share. Ariel also dropped some nuggets about GSP being in Vegas meeting with the ufc, etc.

I think a GSP deal gets done for this card. Bisping is probably the first choice opponent.

Conor is too much in his prime. I'm thinking BJ Penn.
