In an attempt to get somewhat back on topic, why haven't the Blazers already waived Haywood? It doesn't make sense that theyd try to flip him. Is their some time restriction before he can be waived?

Haywood is still an expiring contract that could be valuable to a team trying to avoid luxury taxes. Only now, a team that can take salary back owns Haywood’s rights.

Portland has until August 1 to either release Haywood or complete a deal for keeping
him past August 1 is not an option. We'll likely know something by Friday but any
likely return won't make this years team any better for while we can hope a high lottery
pick but first comes a lot of ugly games at the MC and a lot of empty seats by
January as the casual fan realizes their team stinks.

And, Haywood has been waived - per Olshey and the team.
Now it's just a matter of the buy out for Mike Miller... which could take some time.

Interesting the team could not get anything else from the Haywood contract but this
upcoming season is going to be unlike we've seen for a long time. Massive cap space
used to pick up nickels and dimes for moves perhaps 1-2 years down the line might be
interesting next spring when the team approaches their season ticket base.
