I'm guessing Haywood gets waived and possible they keep Miller (who has a non-guaranteed contract) as a piece they can move at the deadline to a contender for future assets.

Whew, I was worried for a second when it was initially reported as the Blazers giving two second round picks to the Cav's.

Yeah - that didn't make any sense. This makes a little sense.

If you can't trade him right away for something, do you hold onto his low salary to get a piece from a contending/playoff team?

Miller will get bought out. We're not gonna use our cap space and eventually need to hit the salary floor so it's not a big deal.

This is the type of trades you need to make with your cap space to aquire assets. Good job NO

Not exactly what I meant when I wanted to squeeze them, but I guess 2 2nds is better than 1.

2 second rounders is better than nothing I guess. Paul Allen used to just buy second round picks for 3 mil a pop. All they're gonna have to pay Miller's < 3 mil salary. So this is kind of a bargain.

Paul Allen never paid $3M for a 2nd round pick. He did pay $3M for some useless 1st round picks.

so, the Blazers pay 2.9 million in cap-space and cash for two 2nd round picks a long ways from now

I would hope the Blazers get an option to take the better of Cleveland's or Indiana's 2019 2nd's, but I haven't seen a report of that

not really impressed with taking on Mike Miller but I suppose it's possible they could trade him later. Of course, that means cutting Montero or Frazier most likely

it's a crowded roster now

edit: missed the added info

it becomes a much better trade if Portland negotiates a significant buyout with Miller

This trade raised 2 questions. How much cash did the Blazers give in the deal? And, what are we going to do with Mike Miller? I bet the cash paid was something like $1. I believe the rules are Blazers have to be sending Cavs something so the cash is to comply with a CBA provision.

My guess is there is a buyout deal already in place for Miller, or Blazers flip Miller to another team for assets more fitting with Blazers goals.

Blazers might have a deal to trade Miller for 1 or more draft picks.

THAT would be awesome!

Happy we have some assets to help facilitate trades.

I find it very hard to believe that we paid cash for two seconds based on Olshey's track record and for now Im going off the assumption that the only form of "cash" here is the cash savings from the salary absorption the Blazers will be doing here that will end up costing PA nothing due to our being so far under the cap. Assuming no cash was handed out I like it, we got two seconds which can make very good trade chips for virtually nothing.

As far as Miller goes he's obviously a trade chip or gets waived as others have said. I do like the idea of his unguaranteed contract as a trade chip.
