Tonight's Trivial Milestone Challenge WAS going to be about missed field goals, in honor of the GOAT in that category, Kobe Bryant.

But since basketball-reference won't let me do a search with its play index of missed field goals :x, I must make due.

Tonight's TMC will see Damian Lillard take on the all-time assists list. He currently sits in 487th with 1760 career assists.

Please guess Dame's position on this list as well as the career number of assists as a tiebreaker.

B-C's guess of 7 means that he predicts Lillard to rise to a tie for 482nd with Lee Mayberry, with 1767 career assists.

I'll say Lillard moves into a tie for 480th with 1769 career assists.

I guess career 1771 (11 tonight), position 479

Why is this game started at 7:30? It's not on national TV.

Love that Vonleh got some extra run in the 2nd quarter, and played well when he was out there

I'm guessing this is the worst Laker team in forever, or at least since they moved to LA

I think that happened because Crabbe was in foul trouble. Usually to end the 2nd and the 4th, they go small where Aminu plays PF and Crabbe plays SF.

didn't respect Kobe when he came into the league. always thought that first all-star appearance was big market b.s. but as his career went on, I truly respected him in regards to basketball. now, that doesn't mean I ever liked him - or, outside of Team USA or his Celtics playoff series, rooted for him. but he earned my respect.

Jordan was never a Blazers killer. he brought his A game against Drexler, but as much as I love Drexler, outside of one playoff game, he never seemed to step his game up against Jordan. Kobe didn't care, and brought it. when no Laker fan respected the Blazers/Laker contemporary rivalry, Kobe hated that losing streak in Portland.

sensitive Blazers fans can claim he rode Shaq and Gasol for his championships, but he still won them. and without either, he still was a Blazers killer. remember that "Kobe Stopper" game against lubin' Ruben Patterson when he hit two clutch shots to force overtime and win the game? or that one in Roy's first season where he scored 60 something to win in overtime?

like him? no. but you have to respect the guy. but USC was incredibly relevant in the 2000s, and Oregon took advantage of their fall from grace. will Portland follow when this post-Kobe era opportunity knocks?

The Lakers have turned into such a laughing stock that it almost seems like a joke

Vonleh looks a lot more comfortable on offense. Doesn't look like Charlotte Vonleh lately.

As far as Kobe is concerned, I respect his work ethic, and I respect his skill set. That's about all I can say though - he's pretty easily my least favorite player of all time. He played the villain role very well, though, and for a long time.

Unfortunately, he has given birth to scores of absolutely obnoxious fans who have largely hijacked the intelligent Laker fanbase, and the debates that have ensued are nauseating. There are other fans who have attracted an obnoxious fanbase, but few have attracted them in such legions. The ebb and flow that has resulted from such discourse has made him arguably the most polarizing player ever. Thankfully, there aren't too many among the obnoxious side of his fanbase here on RealGM. Venture to other forums or groups, though, and it's another story.

As a player, I think he's one of the top 15 to ever play. I think he gets massively overrated among the general public on the basis of "5 ringz". I'll never say he was carried by Shaq or Gasol, though I think it's pretty clear that Shaq (my 2nd least favorite player ever) was the best and most important player throughout their time together as teammates. Kobe was gifted a lot of opportunities that most stars don't have. It's to his credit that he has taken advantage of them, and the guy has worked his butt off for 2 decades by developing a skillset that makes him competitive in an all-time sense with guys who had athletic advantages, so I think he deserves all of our respect for that at least.

That said, I personally won't miss him one bit, and it's delicious to send him into retirement with one more loss at the hands of the Blazers.
