Season Grades: Luis Montero

Post#1 » by Moonbeam » Fri May 27, 2016 3:11 am

Next up in our season assessments is another rookie who saw little time, Luis Montero.

What do you think were his highlights this season? Should he have a role on the Blazers next season?

Discuss it here!

kinda reminds me of Bazemore when he was a 12th man for the Warriors.

Has a chance to play next season if Crabbe and Henderson leave as free agents. Being close to
Dame can't hurt.

Similar to Alexander in that I didn't see enough of him to give an A-F. What I did see didn't wow me by any stretch, but I imagine it's tough to stand out when you only play 30 seconds every 5th game.

He did what he needed to. He improved from the start of the year. He showed promise in his limited minutes

I liked his apparent skill-set, hoping to see him back next year.

I gave him an A for his relentless and creative trash talk despite the language barrier and him being a youngster.

I'd like to keep him and see what happens with him. I liked what I saw in the very limited time he got. I'd really like to see what type of handles he has. Didn't they say he could pay PG? If that's true, I'd like to see how well he can handle the ball. Let's get him some more experience. I'm surprised they didn't send him to the D-League. Being a guard, he could have gotten a lot of playing time there.

Anyone that talks trash to Kobe during his retirement tour as a rookie is okay by me. I also like his skill set. He is already the best ball-handler and passer at the SF position and probably 2nd only to Crabbe as an outside shooter. He shot 100% in the Playoffs in extremely limited action but hey, 8 points on 3 shots is nothing to complain about....he made the most of his opportunities.

I watched him in warmups in games I attended and he and Pat would have shooting contests. In game 6 against the Clippers Luis was lights out. He kept going back farther and farther behind the line while Pat was staying right at the arc. Pat finally missed but Luis just kept shooting. Finally he missed one from about 30', just laughed and turned and walked off the court. Meanwhile, Harkless was in the corner shooting shot after shot and couldn't hit a one. Moe finally gave up and went and sat on the bench while the rest of the team kept warming up. It was quite the contrast in results.

Granted, Montero is still very raw but with more experience, he has some skills you just don't learn at age 23. He would be a bit like Livingston for the Warriors....at tall PG off the bench that causes matchup problems or at the least a ball-handling 2/3 off the bench that we are sorely lacking.

Out of Cliff, Pat, and Montero; I would pick Montero to stay.

Keep Connaughton & Montero. Sorry Alexander. If there's a roster spot available, he'd certainly be cheap.
