Wow.... Glad to hear he'll be OK. Apparently an innocent bystander in what was expected to be gang related violence.

He was shot in the leg and apparently was shielding children from the gunfire when he was hit. Seriously, the man is a hero. Nothing but love and respect for BRoy. Get well soon!

probably about 99.9% of us are never in a situation where you have to react instinctively to a real and immediate threat to yourself and others. I'd like to think that almost all of us would react with selflessness. I'd especially like to think that of myself. But, I've never really been in a situation similar to what Brandon Roy was apparently in

I can't really be sure of the specifics but it sure sounds like when he was tested his 1st instinct was to protect others. Is there a better definition for hero?

Dude is a hero for shielding those kids. Basketball is just a game, but this has real consequences. It is one thing to sacrifice your body to take a charge on the court, it is another to sacrifice your body to take a bullet for children.

Holy **** what a insane story, amazed that he was trying to shield kids from gunfire. Most people would not have the courage and/or presence of mind to make such a move.

Well I guess the fact that Roy will always be one of my favorite players in NBA history is solidified even more by such a story. Hopefully he fully recovers from the injury...

I think that's the biggest thing moreso than anything else. In such a chaotic sequence of events unfolding in quick succession, just to have the presence of mind to move at all, let alone immediately dive on someone to protect them, I think that all is incredibly impressive.

Many years ago, a friend of mine was hit by a ricocheting bullet while I was standing next to him. Supposedly, it was a gang shooting but we didn't notice anything going on. All we knew was we were near a car that had 3 kids (young men) in it. We heard shots and the car (the intended target) took off.
