Sacramento Republic FC released drawings today of a planned soccer stadium in the downtown railyard that the club says could host a Major League Soccer franchise.
The release of the renderings comes on the eve of a visit by MLS executives who plan to spend Thursday and Friday evaluating Sacramento’s viability as a potential expansion city into the nation’s top professional soccer league

Mayor Kevin Johnson has said that the stadium will not be built with public dollars. Kevin Nagle, the lead investor in Republic FC’s bid for an MLS team, has said he is assembling a deep-pocketed ownership group that will have the capability to finance the stadium and cover an expansion fee paid to the league of at least $70 million.

Sacramento Republic FC announced today that it has entered into a letter of intent with Downtown Railyard Venture, LLC (an affiliate of LDK Ventures, LLC) for the acquisition of a site at the Sacramento Railyards for its proposed MLS soccer stadium. The site is located at 7th Street and Railyards Boulevard within the Railyard master plan. In addition, LDK Ventures President and founder Larry Kelley will join Republic FC’s MLS ownership group, contingent on the league granting expansion rights to the club.
