2014-2015 Mock NBA Free Agency
Hello All,
I am new to this site so there may already be some of these out here that I missed. For those that wanted to join but couldn't make it in, THIS IS FOR YOU!
General:
- I will be the commissioner of this as well as the owner of the Chicago Bulls. The other teams will be given to one owner a piece on a first come first serve basis. I will be providing a link for the information we will be using. There are many websites that give almost but not exact information about salaries, rumors, etc. So, it is in our best interest to conform to one site (hoopshype) for salaries. I have used this in the past to a great success.
- There will be a free agency period that will be TOTALLY UP TO YOU. No real-life scenarios will deter things other than logic OR PLAYER OPTIONS. You can sign players back if you want them back. Carmelo opting out = he isn't picking up his option so no funny business . For example, the Lakers will trade Kobe or LeBron is not going to opt out and go to Cleveland for 30m a year. He and Carmelo are ring chasing. Likewise, Carmelo isn't going to the 76ers or anything like that.
- The draft will be on the same night (hopefully) as the real draft, but it will be set for one week after the final spot is filled. This gives teams a chance to talk and negotiate prior to having to draft right away.
ONLY OFFICIAL TRANSACTIONS WILL BE POSTED BY MYSELF. NO TWO TEAMS CAN JUST ANNOUNCE ANY TRADE/SIGNING!!!! This is very important to avoid confusion.
This thread will most likely need attention at least once a day to check in, see offers, league shake-ups etc.
Step 1: Getting a Team
I will be updating the teams as often as possible until teams are filled. If someone calls a team but it isn't updated yet then assume it is off the table. I will be going based on posting's timestamp.
Example:
John- I CALL HEAT! (2:23pm)
Chris- I CALL HEAT (2:24pm)
John gets the Heat.
There will be http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm salaries listed here for each team and the players. You need to manage this yourself. When you get your team, you will be asked to follow by my example and provide the following:
- Players on current roster (to start the 2014 season)
- Free agents
- Player options
- "On the Block"
- "Untouchables"
- Team draft picks
This will make it easy on everyone and allow you to become more familiar with your team.
Trades
- You will be able to direct message teams with offers. Make sure that both teams agree on a trade. You will then send the trade to me. I will not accept unless BOTH PARTIES send it. Here is an example of what I am looking for:
Trade between Bulls and TWolves:
Bulls get:
-Kevin Love $(Enter Salary)
Wolves get:
-Boozer $(Salary)
-Picks
-Jimmy Butler $(Salary)
Bulls Salary (post trade):
Wolves Salary (post trade):
That will need to be here from both the Bulls owner AND the TWolves owner or it will not be considered. I will only veto insane ideas like Kobe being traded or Greg Oden for Dwight Howard straight up... things like that. I will accept probably 99% of trades if they make sense financially as well as logically.
When I announce the trade, I would also like both teams to update their roster. This isn't that bad because people like to brag about their deals. It will also create less confusion. Messaging in private is STRONGLY encouraged because it is more fun and it is less confusing.
The DRAFT
- Each team will get 2 minutes to make their selections. Once one pick is announced the next team will go. If a team misses their pick then they forfeit their pick. If you cannot make it, send me a list of players ranked and I will make the selection.
Example: 76ers GM cannot make draft. He wants 1. Wiggins 2. Parker 3. Embid 4. Vonleh 5. Randal
I will just go in order of who is still left which is why you should rank them. After the draft, Free agency frenzy will begin.
Free Agency
According to ESPN rumors, the expected Salary Cap (including luxury tax for ease and fun) will be $77,000,000. This is the number we will work with so if you are under that then you have money to spend
- We will until the end of July with free agency. I will not announce all of the signings at the end because that doesn't make sense. What will need to happen is a team will send me an offer as I will act as player:
Rockets GM: We are very interested in bringing you, Carmelo Anthony, to Houston. With two stud scorers inside and outside, you will not have to carry the scoring load every night. We are in a great position to win and will be a force with you on our team. You will be the new Big 3 and I forsee future championship runs in our future. We have the cap space to sign you for 5yr/14 million a year. I know that is taking less money, but we are also pursuing a trade to bring Kevin Love to the team, and with you taking less money as well there would be enough to build a functional team around you.
That is an offer. I will NOT act as the player for players I am trying to sign because that isn't fair. Hopefully there will be another GM willing to take an assisting role in this. This is not an offer:
Rockets GM: Carmelo Anthony 5yr/14 million a year.
Teams don't just throw money, they convince players. IT doesn't have to be the best written thing, but it should make sense. (Carmelo, you want to win. We can win. You want less money for more stars. We can put another star here with you in Golden State with two studs already. Come here and win)
THE END
At the end, I will post the "winners and losers" of free agency. That means that teams who made their team better than the rest and teams who lost the most. Just because Carmelo leaves NY doesn't make them losers. Overall team excellence is the goal and you will see who has improved and who has not improved their teams fairly obviously. This is just for fun, so that is why I am adding winners and losers because it is just fun and doesn't mean anything.
Hope that all makes sense and I hope we will have a great success. And with that... HERE WE GO!

When you choose your team, please also change your logo to your teams'. It will assist in team recognition much easier if everyone has their logo for a bit. It will not be permanent. Also, if you need a coach then hurry and hire

YoU should post the cap for the upcoming free agency period. So, the players that will be on the 14-15 roster please.
Example, a player who will be a free agent this upcoming summer will NOT be on your roster

Hey there Hornets! Nice touch with the color.
We are filling up quicker. Only about 20 teams left! We will have the draft one week AFTER it is all filled. This will now give us the benefit of hindsight
