3P shots, Ryan Anderson, Patterson, Payne

Post#1 » by 20110913 » Sun Jun 22, 2014 2:38 pm

3PTA/FGA can tell us more than nothing, is it true?
someone think 3PTA/FGA is meanless, really?

Ryan Anderson 1st year ncaa 3PTA/FGA=38% 2nd year 3PTA/FGA=35%

patrick patterson 1st 0% 2nd 0%

Pyane 1st 0% 2nd 0%

does you feel some differences between them?

3PA/FGA just tells us how big the 3 ball is a part of a guy's offensive game. 3PA and 3P% are the more relevant factors in judging if a guy can shoot or not.

I'm not sure why Patrick Patterson is listed here, he was not a particularly good shooter in college. He only hit 33% of his 3's on low volume for his career. Payne and Anderson both hit over 40% of their 3 pointers on high volume.

Also, you're numbers are incorrect. Payne's 3PA/FGA his freshman year was 1/72, or 1.4%. And his sophomore year it was 2/173, or 1.2%. Patterson's was also 1% his freshman year, but it was 0% his sophomore year. :P

In any event, Payne did not play very much his first two years, so I'm not sure why they are relevant, compared to his last two years. Payne's 3PA/FGA was 29% this year and 17% the previous season, but more importantly, he hit 41% of his 3 pointers. He can shoot. His shot is a bit slow, so he'll have to work on it, but he can hit 3's.

Channing Frye attempted 23 three point shots in four college seasons.

The Mavs missed the playoffs without Brunson.

Payne can shoot, but he can do a lot more than that.

The reasons to like college Ryno more as a shooting prospect:

- Shot better as freshman/sophomore
- Better FT%

Still, Payne doesn't need to be as strong a shooter as Anderson. Payne has other things going for him like length and ability to drive to the basket to improve his game.
