I don't know about the Bennett comparison, but Lyles is a guy I could see slipping come Draft Day. He plays an increasingly devalued position, is doubtfully ready to contribute, and doesn't seem to offer the upside that many of the wings in this draft do. Not saying he's a bad player, but I think he's a guy that teams have on their board yet pass on for the intrigue of a guy like RHJ or Justin Anderson. Not the lottery lock that many mocks seem to have him as.

I keep hearing this comp--what's the similarity? Boozer was a little short but super strong--like one of the most cut guys in the league at his peak--and he was a great rebounder, mid-range shooter, diving finisher (with both hands), and passer. The shooting is there, but that's true of most PF prospects nowadays. Nothing else seems that similar.

In terms of NBA potential, yeah, I think that's fair.

they compared him to boozer and portis to rasheed wallace i like those comparisons, i looked up portis and tried to compare his lane agility to lyles since jazz want lyles to be a stretch four. lyles didn't get tested for that, portis was 11.5, draymond green 11.1..thereabouts because i think thats the most important perimeter skill...jazz must know something i don't. wallace was a good shooter and good defender...boozer was good at pick and pop and terrible defender...wallace pushed a team like the jazz over the top, boozer can't.

Worst pick in the draft imo. I was hyped for Utah's pick too, **** almost deflated me almost as much as when the Celtics went to pick.

Lyles will make Favors expendable. One of the best picks in this draft. Not a leaper, but very mobile and has great iq. Reminds me of Jeff Green or even a less rebounding Shareef Abdur-Rahim

How would Jeff ****** Green make Favors expendable? IMO this is a very solid pick by the jazz. Lyles ceiling is a better passer david west.

And btw to the OP not even close. The only similarities of Bennett and Lyles is they are born from Canada. Lyles basketball IQ is much better than Bennett.

Lyles will be a nice 3rd big with Favors and Gobert.

Probably as a 3rd big it still works. He'll need to be a 35%+ three point shooter to ever be a starter.

Winglish mentioned Juwan Howard in a thread on the jazz board and that comparison is spot on.

He actually started the year shooting the season shooting well but I think lost confidence quick. His shot is pretty though

Jazz want Lyles to be a (young) Boris Diaw / Lamar Odom and think he has the skill level to do it.
