2016 Draft Rumors

Post#1 » by yosemiteben » Tue Jun 21, 2016 6:49 pm

T&T forum has a thread for trade rumors, figured it makes sense for this forum to have one for draft rumors.

Deveney did a piece on Thon recently where he cited a source that Indy is big on Thon and that 20 is his floor.

All sorts of smoke that Malachi Richardson has a promise from MEM at 17.

Rumor has it Philly is working hard to move one of their bigs for a top 5 pick so they can grab Kris Dunn.

Also talk that Ben Bentil has a first round promise, possibly to the Clippers at #25. Not sure I buy this one though.

Toronto likes Sabonis @ 9 a lot.

Onuaku has a heart condition, Valentine has bad knees and Ulis has a bad hip.

Dejounte Murray is getting a lot of talk around the Bucks from what I've read.

Not buying this since Ujiri likes to keep his cards close to his vest. Probably a smokescreen.

Vince Ellis reported last night that the Pistons are high on Malik Beasley, and they brought him in for a solo workout (interviews only since he had a procedure done) today. He also mentioned Deyonta Davis, Wade Baldwin, and Malachi Richardson. Ellis isn't particularly great but it's pretty much the only thing anybody has heard regarding the Pistons.

Any ESPN Insiders? I'm curious how Chad Ford has his 3-10 in his latest mock.

Calapari said today that Murray wants to go to the Twolves. Reports earlier that Dunns wants to as well.

Sure is nice having players want to go to your team finally instead of going as far as to refusing to workout for you.

Source? These guys are notoriously tight lipped and claim they don't even rank their board until two days before the draft.

Per David Locke, who doesn't have the most inside information, the general talk is that:
--Simmons is confirmed to go #1
--Ingram is confirmed to go #2
--Dunn is the most likely player to go #3, but Boston wants to move the pick
--Chriss is most likely to go #4, but Phoenix also wants to move the pick
--Wolves are expected to be deciding between Murray and Hield, but Minny would like to move the pick for a young veteran
--Murray could slip to 7 or 8
--Sacramento likes Wade Baldwin and Domantas Sabonis and might surprise people with their pick at #8
--Basically most all teams in the 3 - 8 range are shopping their pick, which aligns with what Chad Ford reported, though some of that is probably the standard due diligence
--Picks 9 - 11 are all expected to be bigs chosen from among Davis, Ellenson, Poeltl, Skal and Sabonis.
--Toronto is believed to like Sabonis and possibly Ellenson.

A lot of teams want to move their picks, but are having a hard time finding another team to take them.

My source is a friend in Toronto. He's well connected but not a team official. I won't say more lest I get my friend in trouble.

This was common knowledge when he was in Australia, and I think is the case for most players coming as refugees from African countries

got that one right but was terribly wrong on what I thought my Pacers would do in the second round. I thought we'd buy into the 30's to get a shot at guys that turned out to be available to us at 50 and we didn't take there either. oh, well. on to free agency.
