Fried Calamari's BIG BOARD based strictly on most upside

Post#1 » by Sid the Squid » Thu Jun 11, 2009 9:58 pm

1. Blake Griffen (but not by much..I'm not convinced at all )
2. Brandon Jennings (the quickest most athletic PG in the draft)
3. Ricky Rubio
4. Jrue Holiday
5. Hasheem Thabeet (Mount Thabeet..Incredible defensive potential)
6. Tyreke Evans
7. James Harden
8. Stephan Curry (how's he going to play D on this level?)
9. DeJaun Blair (hope his knees hold up)
10. Demar DeRozan (got to question his bball IQ upside)
11. Austin Daye
12. Jordan Hill
13. Earl Clark (needs an engine overhaul)
14. Terrence Williams (should end up being a great role playing wing)

Rubio 4th, huh. And Blair ahead of Clark? Interesting.

I wouldn't worry too much, he made strides throughout the year.

Who has the furthest to go from where he is now and how good will that final product be. I'll say Holiday and Daye. I can't get on the Thabeet bandwagon...center defense is an overblown talent in today's game and when was the last time a defensive center fulfilled the hype? I think you know what you're getting with Blair, Curry, Thabeet, Griffin, and the 4 unc players, so I think they are closest to their ceiling than the others.

This list makes a lot more sense to me. Only I think Holiday should get bumped up to #5 and Daye #6.

I wouldn't even say DeRozan has that much upside. He's not a natural creator, his ball handling is not good, his length and height is average at best for a SF (which will be his future position), and he isn't the freak athlete everyone makes him out to be (good yes, but not Vince Carter like).

If we're only talking about upside, Mullens has as much upside as anyone in the draft

not that I think he'll achieve it though

That's about right. I might swap Jennings and Derozan on that list though

This is on upside? Well done. Switch Holiday and Clark (yes, I know, but he doesn't have a position!) and I like it.

lol Mullens is a complete waste of space..Let me tell you something, if you can't rebound against future insurance salesman in college, there's no chance your going to do it in the pro's. :wavefinger: ..And what will he be able to do in the league? He's not going to defend..He's not going to be able to score in the post..Maybe he can go get doughnuts for the stars?

This is an upside list right?? Mullens has huge upside. He hasn't reached it yet, that is why he is on the list. And isn't that the reason you made it. To me you posted who is going to be a better pro list.

Idk whats scarier, how horrible this list turned out to be or how multiple guys in this thread agreed with it :o

Just goes to show that nobody knows what the hell is gonna happen with NBA prospects

First of all, that was a hard draft to predict. Who could have thought Harden or Curry could have been as good as they are? Curry didn't have a lot of exposure and Harden had a really unorthodox style.

On top of that, we know a lot more and have much more access now. When teams fail at picks, they learn not to make the same mistake twice too.

Personality is the most underrated aspect of the game that few people here actually pay attention to. I watch all the interviews I can and others should too if they're to make better judgements. I don't believe you're able to make a fair assessment till you've done your due diligence.

Practically nobody was high on Curry but a ton of people predicted Harden being very good and had him very high.
