Unfortunately, the city is going to bypass Hansen & the Sodo project in order to fix Seattle Center (Their own pet project). OVG are in the lead & should get the go-ahead. I like a lot of fans hate the idea of another Coliseum renovation. But, it looks like we won't have much choice in the matter. Seattle politics at its best.

Are there more than one group presenting arena proposals?

Those renderings look like they're of different arena designs.

Yes, three separate groups. Two different locations.

One proposal at that location & two at the older Key Arena location. AEG & Oak View Group both have proposals to renovate the old Seattle Coliseum. Which is where the Sonics use to play at. Currently, the Seattle Storm & Seattle University basketball team plays at that location. But, its too small for professional hockey & needs to be completely re-done for NBA standards as well. Here is a link to the other proposals.

http://www.sonicsrising.com/2017/5/2/15510944/seattle-partners-keyarena-proposal-light-on-arena-details

Most fans would prefer it at the new location (Sodo). It's a far better location. With more parking & easy access, etc. But the City wants it at the other location, because its a city owned building. Seattle politicians make it harder than it really needs to be. Thus, we still are without a team. The process has been very frustrating to say the least.

Do all 3 groups want to own the NBA and NHL teams or do any of them just want to own the new arena?

Seems like the trend is to have dedicated arenas for NBA and NHL, not share one arena for both teams. It would make more financial sense to share but there are occasional schedule conflicts, including same-day turnarounds where there's condensation from the ice on the wood floor for basketball.

One of them (lead by Chris Hansen, same guy who tried to buy the Kings) wants to own a team. NBA team only tho. The other two, legally can't own teams (AEG, OVG). But, they have partnered with potential NHL owners. NO NBA however.

Only one group will likely get the approval. Majority of fans want the Sodo location & Hansen to win out. But, that's very unlikely to happen now. Instead, one of the two Key Arena options will get the green light. Meaning, Seattle won't get an NBA team soon, but will get hockey.

NHL sits at 31 teams I believe and will want to go 32 to even out. Where does it stand on that?

Rumors are Seattle could be the 32nd. The city is deciding between two arena proposals at the moment. Both groups also have potential NHL partners. It's expected to be finalized by the end of this summer. Expansion could be announced soon after or within the next year.

AEG wasn't going to win approval from the city, by asking for 250 million in public bonds, so they pulled out. They saw the writing on the wall essentially. The Oak View Group, led by Tim Leiweke, is in the driver's seat. The City wants a resolution to Key Arena.

So any of these groups willing and able to pony up a couple of billion for the Rockets and move them to Seattle?

I suspect NBA wouldn't want to abandon a market like Houston though.

But hell, if Bezos has any interest in sports, he wouldn't even feel it, spending a couple of billion on an NBA team and then spending probably another billion to two billion for a privately-financed arena.

Not that Amazon needs more branding but "Amazon Arena" every night on Sportscaster could be worth something to him.

Yes, there is a group. The same group that tried to buy & move the Kings. The issue is that Houston doesn't have an arena problem. A lease with the city til 2033. So, if the group bought the team, it's very unlikely the league would approve a move. Unless Ballmer one day decided to move the Clippers, the chances of Seattle landing a team are very very low.

You tell me!? Rumors are the league has no intention of expanding any time soon. Silver has shot down the idea whenever asked. It's beyond frustrating! :banghead:

I think the issue is a) d-bag mayor, who for whatever reason is adamantly against it and b) no 2nd location that's ready to roll. I've been very vocal that Kentucky, specifically Louisville, is ready for a pro team.
