Maybe?

I'm kinda surprised the Clippers (Ballmer) aren't one of the teams.

The NHL is going to beat out the NBA's return.

The league screwed up, I know there is chatter of the Kings relocating and that's why they went this way but this game should have been the Thunder and the GSW... and it should have been a regular season game.

That's old news.

Lawsuits are pretty much the norm.
True, but there's supposed to be an update at the end of this month according to the article.

How do you expect it'll play out?

Have there been any talks of having a regular season game in Seattle?

It'd be pretty wild if they had the all-star game in Seattle the first possible year after the renovation (or construction) as "a show of good faith."

Yeah, it would seem that Ballmer continues to bang the drum for Chris & Sodo. As he should. But, the problem is that the city is now fully behind Tim Leiweke & the Key Arena renovation.

I honestly don't give a shite about what Windhorst, of all people, is trying to write.
The guy doesn't know all that much, only got to his position because he was Lebron's personal news outlet, and has been writing that crap for some time now.

If the NBA doesn't like the new arena than Tim Leiweke would be the first to know about that and we wouldn't be at the point we're at right now.
Especially with the city demanding the green light of both leagues to sign off on that new arena as well.

I also don't believe that waiting for nearly another decade would be a wise idea by the league, given that it would push basketball fans even further away from the league and basically hand Seattle winter sports fans over the the NHL.

Key Arena

It's not all that remarkable. it's also limiting the renovation possibilities that were possible with just building a brand new stadium. I know the city council did not want to abandon it and were desperate for someone to come in and revitalize it. but it shouldn't have been at the expense of just being nostalgic.

i feel kind bad for chris hansen this was a great model for a potential stadium

The roof is considered a 'Historical Landmark" by designation ('62 World's Fair). As ridiculous as it might sound.

Most people prefer Hansen's arena proposal. Better location, traffic, parking, etc. But as usual, the city got what it wanted. By protecting it's own asset (Key Arena/Seattle Center).

Hansen was never going to get approval as long as finding a solution for Key Arena was still an option for the City.
