This is not entirely accurate. Several media outlets came to the plate, but they wanted to put the team on regional or specialty channels, while the Raptors wanted broadcasts to be national. They walked away from paying regional contracts in exchange for a discounted national contract that offered the ad sharing instead. This may or may not have been better financially but ensured that the games were available nationally as much as possible.

We'll never know what the actual take was, but to say they weren't willing to pay a nickel is wrong.

The income of all those teams combined might be positive, but half of those teams are making losses

And also to clarify - the league has never said that as a whole they are losing $300 million - they are saying that a large number of teams are losing money, which adds up to about $300 million in losses between them.

The Forbes numbers put that closer to $150 million, but they don't necessarily have access to all the info, some of which has been verified to be confidential details like debt servicing and depreciation calculations.

Which is why ESPN TruHoops reported last week that as many as 13 owners who are losing money are pushing hard for increased revenue sharing.

...and an $80,000 expense for a Zamboni which is on the Magic's books which is not a piece of equipment required to operate an NBA franchise.

So what?
Reality is that more people watch the Bucks in Wisconsin than Canadians watch the Raptors.

On preferred sports watched on TV by the 33 millions Canadians, unfortunately basketball is behind most other sports - almost inexistent audience outside Toronto.
Might be hard to believe to some of us rabid bball fans, but do your research before basing your "knowledge" on your friends interest.

I was going to say this also - these figures are old. They talk about the Bulls being eliminated by the Cavaliers but still making their normal profit. The profit for 2011 would certainly be greater because Bulls went one more round in playoffs.

Knicks are at top because Isiah's crazy spending is now history. As for Lakers, they were champions that year so they are always near top as a result.

Which puts the 'poverty' numbers the owners give out in exactly the same boat.
