Toronto needs a winner

Post#1 » by Vin-Baker6 » Sun Mar 18, 2012 4:43 am

Title speaks for itself. I'm sick and tired of being fed losers for all these years. I'm all for the tank, but Toronto needs a winner. This is a greats sports town, but we have nothing to show for it. I remember going to game 6 in 2001 vs the sixers. The ACC has NEVER been louder. We need a STAR. It hurts me watching games this year; empty seats galore with a crappy team, so far removed from the glory days (and those days were only second round action, smh). We have the most loyal fanbase in Toronto, but how long can we be loyal? I really hope all this tanking gets us a star, and that BC doesn't **** us over for the millionth time. We can only go so long with the tank. I hope one day we'll RAISE THAT GODAAMN LARRY O'BRIAN TROPHY AND SHOW THE NBA WHOS BOSS.

RAPTOR FANS STAND UP!!!
TDOT STAND UP!!!
BC, DELIVER US A WINNER! JONAS! LEAD US TO THE PROMISED LAND!
JOSE! GTFO! (LOVE THAT SPANIARD DOE)
thanks for the vent ppls

I think James Johnson and Bayless showed they want to win.
Particularly in James Johnson, he is doing everything (except for a few things that he is learning, eg. isolation).

We will probably look into FA or draft a winner for the team.

You don't watch Raptors basketball if you dare to utter the words soft and JJ in the same sentence.

JJ is at best a 8th man on a contender. My bad about soft, if your reffering to his cute blackbelt.
You watch too much raptors ball looool, overrating scrubs.
O my bad ozzy, shoulda not been so mean to Jose lol

He's not soft, his effort is commendable. That doesn't mean he's a good starting SF, or even 2nd unit SF.

Being an 8th man on a team with actual starers+6th man is an insult to JJ how? If you're going to bitch and moan, point the finger at the guy who assembled the team and not the players, especially JJ who pours his heart out to put a quality product on the floor He's being asked to play above his head and if you ask anyone, he's doing a pretty job of it on all fronts.

Soft?
Scrub?

Yeah I'm done with this thread.

Its a shame we ve never had a good GM except Grunwald in our history. The only hope is that this prolonged drought for all Toronto sports teams results in something good down the road.

This century couldn't have started off as a bigger disaster for Toronto Sports. It feels like
this era will never END. Our cities sports teams have embarrassed us locally, nationally, and
even partially globally.

With that said....

The Raptors and Blue Jays are on the rise and are doing something no Toronto teams ever do
and thats REBUILD properly.... Unfortuanatley the Leafs are just as messed up as they
always are. 2008 and 2009 high lottery picks Schenn and Kadri look like duds. Outside of
Columnbus and Montreal the Leafs might have the bleakest future in the NHL. Wouldn't
surprise me to see them challenge the Chicago Cubs futility record some day. I don't think
any of us will see them win a Cup in our lifetime unless there are some 10 years olds on here.

As for Michael Kidd Gilchrist I think the Raptors need another scorer and desperatley need
some perimeter shooting from the wings which hes not showing right now. If you draft him
we might have to go after Eric Gordon or Ray Allen hard or try and get another pick to
get Lamb or Beal. DeRozan and JJ could be cheap backups or be traded in that scenario.

Toronto Rock and their 5 championships in the last dozen years say hello.

We as raptor fans overrate these weak players found in other teams trash bins. WE NEED TALENT. Im not gonna hate too much though, Im guilty of it too (Loool Pops Mensah Bonsu). That's is our problem. We wait for these weak players to develop, and they get nowhere, and so do we. Then it happens again. Rinse, wash, dry, repeat.

I wouldn't call Grunwald a good GM...

He rushed a rebuild that had a young nucleus of Billups, Camby, Carter, and McGrady
because some stupid fans booed him and the team off the court because an expansion team
in its 3rd year took a step back.

5th pick in the draft traded for a back up 31 year old PF on Indiana Camby the 2nd pick in
the draft traded for a 35 year old Charles Oakley.... He then bombed the 12th pick with
Radojevic. All for 3 years in the playoffs and 1 playoff series win. Basically the ultimate
treadmill team.

He capped us out by giving Davis the Max, JYD, Alvin, and Hakeem insane deals handcuffing
us to make any major moves and it eventually led to Vince Carter leaving. He also ignored
every cry from the American media that McGrady was leaving and ended up losing him for nothing.

Considering what Grunwald had to work with (possibly 2 young HOFs) and what the final
result was Grunwald was a horrible GM and set this team back years. Babcock basically was
hired to clean up the giant mess did that got axed Colangelo took over fresh and botched
it again.

And the 2004 Toronto Argo's say Bonjour unfortunatley this is a Pro Sports forum which is why
you don't see the Toronto Rock or Argos tabs beside the Blue Jays, Leafs. Bills, and Sens
near the top.

You just reminded me of a Funny story about the Toronto Rock though....

I was at Club 107 in Sauga years ago when Andy Frost (Current Leafs PA Announcer) DJ'ed and
he announces to the club that the first person who came to the DJ booth and told him who
the Toronto Rock play next game would win free tickets. About an hour goes by and he comes
back again and says nobody has claimed the free Toronto Rock tickets and if anybody
can name him one player on the Toronto Rock they win free tickets to the next game. Then
last call comes and he says that nobody has still yet claimed the Toronto Rock tickets and if
anybody wants free tickets to the next Toronto Rock game be the first person to come by
the DJ booth to claim them

Did the Toronto Rock have a parade for their championships? If they did the players on the
team probably out numbered the fans that were there.

All things being equal (and they are not...), currently each year Toronto has a:

1/30 chance of winning the NBA
1/30 chance of winning the NHL
1/30 chance of winning MLB
1/19 chance of winning MLS

Let's face it: it's not easy to win.
