This is more of an issue with Ed davis since last year...hes done nothing but positive things when he gets the rock on the block. As for Jonas hes seen enough touches. LIke others have mentioned he doesnt have the polish, footwork or arsenal of moves. Right now hes better utilized as an energy player who'll have to work for his points. He isnt a workhorse in the post nor do i think he'll ever be one.

The only way he will evolve into a better offensive player is to get touches in places on the court where he is capable of scoring even if at this time he is not.

He needs at least another 3-4 touches a night where he can possibly make a bucket. This freeze out stuff (not that I think players are making a conscience effort to deny him the ball) is going to regress his progress, even if he takes a bad shot those bad shots will lead to better shots or the ability to make those shots in the future.

Most of those shots are putbacks though.

Some of them are putbacks and it's clear that Casey doesn't consider him to be an option on offense.

Well it would be better than Bargs bricking @ 35%. Just looked up Bargnani's stats, he was playing better as a rookie...
I think it's fair that Val doesn't get many opportunities on isos, as he is not capable yet to play 1on1 to good results, but when he is rolling after screen, these times you can trust him to score or get fouled.

Havent seen much of Lowry but I do know that Calderon isint good at the high low feed nor the entry pass. If Jonas V isint running the pick and roll with Calderon all the time, he isint getting the ball from Jose unless he is completely wide open and no one picks the pass. Otherwise Jonas V will have to get his opportunities by clean ups, tip ins, and offensive rebounds.

He reacts to fast and doesn't have good enough vision on the court, right now its tunnel vision. He needs to slow down, right now he is just raw.

He gets stripped every other time he gets the ball. Needs to improve strength and learn to keep the damn ball up over his head more.

He turns the ball over a lot on his kick outs, should probably only give him the ball for easy baskets until he develops his post game

It will come, but not now. If they do it now, I guarantee you that 90% of the time it will end up with a turnover.

How many of those FGA's were actual tip-in put back attempts though?

He certainly isnt getting much passes as far as the actual passing goes, He gets his FGA mostly from rebounding put-backs rather than actual plays through him.

He is however, turnover prone so that is fair.

I think he's got to keep it simple but he's on his way. He's rushing most of the time but that's a rookie for you. He jacked everything he saw early on, passing isn't his deal yet other than kick-outs and I think that's affecting his touches now. Also, nobody on our team knows how to throw a damn entry pass and forget about re-posting.

He likes the left block like many righties do, and it looks like he's working on the running hook/hook/dunk over his left shoulder, depending on depth of position, and the turnaround J over his right. He needs a drop-step when he's deep, that seems to be when he gets lost as they take the middle away (everybody saw that dunk on Amare) but I think that will come with beef and time. That will be plenty for a guy of his size/reach who works so hard to get deep position, IMO.

It looks like he's molding his game after Patrick Ewing even if he doesn't know it (Roth probably does) complete with FTs and a keep-you-honest 15-footer up top, which he has been bricking but looks better than the results. Not saying he has the kind of touch or athleticism of a young Ewing (closer to the aged one) but that looks like the toolbox he's trying to assemble. We just need the refs to accommodate the Georgetown Gallop on that running hook!

Undefeated wrote:He lacks the polish and defenses often will send over an extra defender to double him at the markers when he has the ball on a post-up forcing him to pass out of the double because he isn't exactly a proficient passer passing out of trouble against trap and it usually results in a turnover. According to SynergySports he has a turnover rate of 23.1% which is godly high, so that's probably why the team doesn't trust him lol. And he needs to stop swinging his elbows.

However, there shouldn't be any excuses as to why he's getting looked off when he dives to the rim after slipping the screen. He's got hands of glue being able to catch the ball in any awkward position.

Indeed, this is what I see. An example in the 3rd quarter against Orlando at 10:30 mark.
Again, not sure what is the rush, and keep seeing people hyping on our young talents will not make them any good. Keep his role simple, hope he enjoys his rookie season, and focus on correcting himself is his goal for this season.

Jonas's touches probably have nothing to do with Bargnani. But at bad as Bargnani shooting 35%, many of the plays are designed for him to shoot and have our rebounders ready. In the exception of some non-sense moves by Bargnani, most of Calderon's play run through Bargnani has a higher percentage of getting back the possession. Of course, I don't like some of his shot selections, and wish Bargnani can turn himself into playmaker instead (need Casey to work with him on the passing options).
