Dagger posted a link, it's not happening.
It wouldn't be surprising though. "Get a guy fans recognize, give him a job that's hard to explain in less than fifty words, give him a lot of face time, and customers won't notice the crap product" is totally something MLSE has done before and will continue to do until we stop giving them money.

no
I'm kinda disappointed with the hypocrisy of some people on this board, you whine about puckheads talking about basketball, which they know nothing of, but in retort you spew off at the mouth about hockey which you know nothing of.
PS. To the people who are concerned that this would somehow affect Basketball Operations, I ask you: Did Burke have a hand in the basketball side of things? Then why would Gretzky? The article explicitly states that's whose job he would be taking.

I think MLSE would be looking for a business person in the CEO seat who happens to work in the sports industry. 99 doesnt fit that role imo.

I think the guy who picked Bertuzzi over Crosby for the Olympic team would be perfect to head MLSE. That decision perfectly symbolizes its corporate ethos.
Disclaimer: Despite whatever I may have said above about improving the Raptors, my first choice is to tank.

What's funny about the initial conversation is that Cox, Kypreos and Bobcat all surmised that Gretzky would be a great candidate, but they had no clue what the job required. No clue at all. They came up with... "uh... the job description is win the Leafs the cup."

I think Mitt Romney would be a much better choice, he has business and sports
experience, and he is currently unemployed.
