Playoffs are not impossible, just improbable. We should still aim for the playoffs but if we finish 9th or 10th, then it is what it is.

Keep in mind this is the East and in recent history the 8th seed typically had a sub .500 record. We should keep striving for the playoffs until we make it there.

We're not the only team in the race either. Detroit has been winning at about the same pace for several weeks now, and Washington is making a strong push now that John Wall is back (but still started too late in all likelihood). But Reignman and others are right - push for the playoffs until mathematical elimination. Then push for most wins. Finish the season strong playing guys like Ross and Valanciunas, and the good vibe will carry over to next season.

To get to 35 wins even, this team needs to go 16-15. Not impossible with this squad as they pretty much show with the addition of Gay to be a .500 team. But you're also relying on everyone else losing significantly.

You have to jump over 3 teams to get in. That's a lot of praying for other teams to help you out.

It's just not that likely that this team is going to make it. Also, every year we hear about teams getting in with even lower wins but they end up around the 40-41 win mark which would mean they'd have to 21-10 or close to that which is not likely and still jump past 3 teams.

I'm pretty confident we could pass detroit(a win tonight does that). Washington has been playing way better as of late but it's a little too late for them imo. We just gotta keep our eyes on Philly and the Bucks who play each other on Wednesday.

It's really 2 teams, I don't consider Detroit a threat lol

So you dismiss Detroit but paint our situation in a best case scenario?

And you dismiss Washington even though they got Wall back and are playing better, won 4 in a row. If Washington is out, then we're pretty much out too.

I don't mean to hate on you, because playoff basketball would be fun and we all want some playoff games. But you're basically painting everyone in their worse case scenario and us in the best case scenario and even then it's tough to see this team doing it. As someone said, not impossible but highly improbable.

No if Washington has no chance, it doesn't mean we don't. They are 4 games behind us which means 10 games out of 8th. That's a HUGE difference compared to us and the 8th seed. I don't see Detroit as a threat because I feel like we are a better team than them.

Guys we are 15-13 in our last 28 games and now we have Gay, Bargs and Val in the lineup too. Pulling off some kind of run - say, 18-13 the rest of the way - is NOT a long shot, though that likely wouldn't be enough, but it could be. Of course going 13-18 is also not a long shot. :-?

Washington is out of it, but we're only 4 games ahead of them, just as a couple of wins can be positive, two losses this week and we're closer to them than 8th.

And you don't see Detroit as a threat but with them being supposedly worse than us, they sit currently ahead of us.

Again, you're just simply not looking at things realistically about the situation we put ourselves in with the start we had.

I think we have a chance, but we have to win those 2 games against bucks.

I see this team finishing anywhere between those two numbers but even best case they end up with 18-19 wins, they're still on pace to finish out of the playoffs. Had this team been together for a full season, yes, they look like a bottom playoff seed. But the hole we dug ourselves in just makes it highly improbably that we can make it now.

the playoffs certainly seem unlikely this year. but if the raps pulled it off it would be pretty mind-boggling considering our 4-19 start. one game at a time...

if we somehow beat denver tonight and then win tomorrow in ny, then we can start getting excited. but there's a better chance of us going 0-2 than 2-0.

Exactly! Not just for this season but as Dagger said, building towards next season as well.

Just make sure we take care of business against teams like the bucks so we get the 2 point swing for each win. I'm not sure if we have any games left against Philly, Detroit or Boston but the same applies there. Those are all must-win games.

The only way this team is making the playoffs is if Bargnani returns to the form he showed last year before getting hurt, and Lowry regains his top form consistently. Even if that happens you still might only go 20-11 and finish 39-42 on the season, likely coming just short.

if we want to have a chance to make the playoffs, we can't afford to drop games against other teams in the race like the Bucks/76ers/Pistons, since those create even more separation.

0-1 vs bucks, 2 games left
76ers hold the tiebreaker
1-1 vs pistons, 2 games left, hopefully Jose helps us out.

Losing sanders is a huge blow for milwaukee and if they send ilva out, theres good chance for a free fall, especially the joke of a backcourt in ellis jennings.
Detroit has been quite well (as good if not better than us) with monroe playing out of his mind, resurgence of CV and JC shooting the lights out. Feel like its the biggest competition.
Wiz has a healthy lineup and with NEne and wall, theyre proving to be quite a solid team.
Cleveland... Waiters is going on a hot streak and irvig is one hell of a baller.
Philly is doomed unless holIday plays at another level which is unlikely.

Itll come down to To, mil, det, and wsh.. But the bucks are way ahead of the pack and will take a huge winning streak to get within striking distance. Torontos schedule doesnt get any easier either..
