Re: OT: The Greatest Tragedy in Sports
I have two NBA jerseys hanging in my closet.
Jason Williams
and
Alvin Williams
Too bad white chocolate had to be traded in order for the Kings to get to that next level... even worse they were straight robbed!
Kings and Jail Blazers my favorite teams besides Toronto growing up (being Toronto born and raised).
Both Sacramento and Portland defeated in major ways by La La Land in those early 2000s! DOh!

I'm a homer fan. I might have watched 5 non-Raptor games since the Raptors first season. I always wondered why Stern is hated everywhere.
The referees are crooked and Stern doesn't care as long as it creates positive revenue for the league.

Stern should be sitting in front of a Grand Jury answering questions about this. I'm sure some guys in Vegas woulds love to hear he fixed games.

I don't believe match fixing went up to that level of the league office. I think it stayed within the ref's and their circle.
After Donaghy got caught, it just isn't outright anymore.
Still, foul calls between home games and road game's is something that's startling.

Stern may or may not have been directly involved, but even if he did not know specifics, as the head of an organization that was involved in possible illegal conspiring to defraud the public he can be held accountable for the actions of others. Regardless, he should be on public record somewhere, to explain what happened and how it was officially dealt with to prevent it happening again. If Congress can have the big inquiry into Steroids in Baseball, then they can have a hearing about game fixing in Basketball.

Whoever is responsible, it still happens. Refs keep games close. I am positive they get paid by gamblers to ensure the spread is maintained.
What is unconsionable is the NBA apologies with no sanction on the ref that screwed up. What if we miss the playoffs by 2 games, can the Raptors sue the league for the revenue for 2 home playoff games?

Kobe is a great player. But much of his legacy has been manufactured.

I always refer Laker fans to series' like that when they whine about reffing. They are the last fan base on the planet that should be complaining about poor officiating...

The video proves the the calls were horrible and the Kings got jobbed. I was waiting for the proof of the games being fixed, but there was nothing to be found. The video suggests Stern was fixing these games without a shred of proof.

The officiating seems like an average raptors game to me

Re: OT: The Greatest Tragedy in Sports
I have often thought that the reffing gets in the way of my enjoyment of nba basketball... I don't think any other pro sport gives as much power to the refs as nba ball, there should be replay teams, you should be able to challenge and it should all be transparent... the way things are now almost encourages refs to meddle.
Pascal to the future.

Re: OT: The Greatest Tragedy in Sports
I remember that at the time of that series, the Kings were one of my top-3 most hated teams and the Lakers were one of my top-3 favourites. I remember game 6, even moreso than game 7 making me think: "This isn't fair". Following the series, I didn't change my feelings for the Kings, but I found that I could no longer cheer for the Lakers.
