I can't believe Myck Kabongo is not on the roster yet.

Raptors HQ actually profiled Echenique in February:

http://www.raptorshq.com/2013/2/16/3995 ... s-alex-len

This guy is 6'10", 260 pounds and likes to eat rebounds, block shots and throw his weight around. The Raps are missing a big man with mobility, beef and the ability to cause an offensive player to second guess coming into the paint. Echenique can be this player. He's averaging 7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in 22 mins right now and could fill a Nene type role for the team. He's spent his summers playing for the Venezuelan National team and has good experience. I think he could fall into the free agent pool where the Toronto could snatch him at a bargain price.

@AlexKennedyNBA
Undrafted free agent Gregory Echenique will play for the Toronto Raptors' summer league team.

I remember him in high school and his recruitment. He's a decent player that takes up some space. As the team remains now I don't see him making the regular season roster.

"Raptors taking hard look at Canadian Myck Kabongo who surprisingly went undrafted. We heard today John Lucas won't return. No coincidence."

Here's another little article on Echenique.

His agent, Ben Pensack, said Denver, Houston and Charlotte had also expressed interest.

“There’s starting to be a real buzz out there about him,” Pensack told SNY.tv. “Teams are realizing what he brings to the table defensively is really, really unique.

“In Boston, they told me they think he could make the NBA.”

Echenique competed against likely lottery pick Steven Adams in the Boston workout and said he thought he did well.

“The feedback [from Boston] was really positive,” he said. “They liked the way I played. They thought I need to add to my game that mid-range jumper, make it more consistent.”

“It was my first workout and wasn’t sure what to expect,” he said. “I thought I did well. I played hard.”

Echenique intrigues me. Our frontcourt needs a mobile big body

Will we have a Tomislav Zubcic sighting? He's actually moved to Lietuvos Rytas for the upcoming season (a step up from where he was). Not that I necessarily expect him to ever play in the NBA or anything, but it would be nice to get a look at one of our former 2nd rounders.

Glad to see Echenique on the roster. Hoping for Kabongo as well, give him a shot at maybe making the roster. Expect to see a European free agent or two as well.

Would be great as a backup PF/C that I am expecting to replace Grey. However, not enough experience in the NBA, which I would prefer someone in the MLE level.

Good for 3rd string PF/C. Don't think he has enough quickness against NBA PF, perhaps his size and quickness can go against backup C. Some post offense when he got the ball in deep, but our lack of shooters won't be easy for him to do that. Without a jump shot, most likely he will play C in the NBA. Perhaps Dampier lite.

Josh Lewenberg ‏@JLew1050
The Raptors are now in the market for a backup point guard, as well as a likely third PG. Let the Kabongo speculation begin/continue

and don't we need an actual "coaching staff" in place before going to the summer league or is Casey pulling some OT next month?
