The Boston Celtics are gaining traction in talks to acquire Houston center Omer Asik, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

I would like him to get dealt so all the NBA's GMs can focus on giving away firsts for our junk.

Good. This will continue to help our tank cause.

If it makes the team better by just trading guys like bass and a future pick I am all for this since it will help our tank....

And we thought that Danny Ainge was kidding when he said the Celtics weren't tanking.

This is a bad move for the tank. Asik needs to go to the 76ers or Cavs to help them get some wins. Celtics with Rondo added to their current team are already good.

Why does Houston want a 1st round pick? Why would boston trade a first round pick? Confusing trade. I'm not complaining tho, this makes boston better right now.

With Morey, there is always a first round pick invovled.

If the deal goes thru as it is, then the chances of Rondo being traded decrease dramatically. Ainge may think his team is good enough to get to the 2nd round.

I'd think Houston would be more in the win now mode. Where as Boston should be looking to the future.

It frees up capspace for Hou for future trades (giving them the ability to take on salaries), good GM's always place importance on a low salary-high upside of a 1st rounder regardless of how their team is currently playing.

For Boston, Asik is likely a better player than anyone they can get with their pick (its likely in the late teens or 20's) and he's young enough to grow with their current squad. It also helps that they have an abundance of picks so they aren't as attached to it.

Houston knows it's way easier to trade him now. He makes only 5 million a year. Next year he will be making 15 million.
