Meaning it wasn't Lowry who came out and said "I love Toronto guys!".
Meaning we should not all of sudden put him into that Amir / Mo Pete circle.

Either way, it tends to put the lie to any notion that he's told Masai via his agent that he won't come back even if we're offering competitive money.

I find it interesting how most you forgot what lowry was doing in houston before injury. He was a bull dog single handily kept them in playoff contention. He is a strong player who never A) given full time starter duties B) stayed healthy. If his health is good i think this is the Kyle you can expect whether contract year or not .

Does any one know when a team can offer contract extension? Is it only at the end of the season or can it happen during the season. I hope if masai does not trade him he at least locks him up after the deadline so there will be no drama with the media about him staying or leaving.

I'm actually impressed with his blocks numbers. Lowry has 5 blocks in the last 10 games.

On the other hand, I'm a little concerned with JV's blocks. only 4 in the last 10 games.

He is a great piece but still need a superstar to contend with this team.

From what I've seen, has to be a top 3 guard in the game if not the best. Great on both ends of the court, good leader, leads the league in charges. He's a max the way he's playing right now.

He's playing like a star PG, no doubt. 20 PER, .209 WS/48, those are great numbers.

Definitely playing like a star period. Doing things even a PG isn't expected to do for this team.

But let's trade him because there might be some kid who 5 years from now will be just as good!

We can offer him an extension now, but it can only be a percentage above current salary and would put him far below his market value. He would never accept it and we won't offer it. We will have to wait till the end of the season and compete with everyone else. The good news is we can offer him a 5th year and a very good situation. Also, he has been on other teams so he knows the grass in not always greener. That was the problem with TMAC, Vince, and Bosh... They all thought things would be so much better somewhere else. Kyle may no better and realize he has a good thing going here.

There are also not a lot of suiters with the cap space or the need. So, having said all that, I say we take our chances.

Also, do you guys think its commonplace for MU to have a "conversation" with Lowry to feel him out? Or ask him straight out? Or do you think his buddy DD one evening they are playing PS4 says,"Dude, lets do this here." and works on him a bit?

I think Lowry has a special quality that not even all the stars have. There may be other point guards that are better players, but I don't think any are bigger competitors. I think a lot of his "attitude" issues that have surfaced in the path were about his extremely high standards for himself and his team mates and his hatred of losing.

Not sure if Casey has helped him channel this, or he is just more mature now, but you can see it manifesting itself in positive ways on the court constantly. He is providing leadership to Jonas & Ross. Going over plays with them after the fact, and whatever he is saying they are receptive to it - you can see them agreeing and nodding.

I want to keep him. This is a very positive influence to have for the younger guys.

Didn't know about this. I really don't understand this rule. So this only works for negotiating during the year on any player extension?

Exactly..he'd be crazy to retain Derozan over Lowry especially when taking into account in win shares...most likely and hopefully I think Derozan will be traded in the offseason for a starting caliber PF if we were to go to the play route.

Offer him 4 years at 9 mil NOW. Before he makes the all star team and steps it up in the playoffs. If he falls off after getting paid I feel like that contract is still moveable.
