I'm one of the biggest Bruno critics and even I think it looks like he's progressed this year.

Luckily, defense is largely about hard work and Bruno is reportedly one of the biggest gym rats on the team. Its definitely shown so far this preseason. I think his character/work ethic must have been a big part of why Masai drafted him.

Bruno does play with a motor which, with his skill set should cement him atleast as a great energy guy off the bench. It's really more or less to me about how his awareness and bball IQ come along and if he can catch up to the pace of the game. His dribbling and shot are going to get better and has made pretty massive strides defensively already in a short period of time. Hopefully strength and conditioning will result in him becoming a more effective rebounder. Right now he has the skills to be a stretch 4 but his lack of strength and poor rebounding production would make him a liability there. However, if he can be ready by his 4th year you can have him in a situation where Carroll can defend the 4 and play the 3 on offense, thus really playing to Bruno's strengths.

my main criticism with bruno is his passing. his passes look so slow/weak, they could be easily intercepted by an active defender.

how much games he played last year?

edit: 8 games with Raptors, 3 games at D-League, 5 games at SL. Total: 16 games + 2014/15 preseason. Most of on garbage time.

if he plays 35 minutes per game, he will play 630 minutes, the triple of last season, in just 2 months! will be great to him! :D

That's fair. Hopefully, the coaching staff sees this too and when running sets with him they tell him to put some urgency behind his passes.

I've said this before, but I think quite a few of his issues are still related to strength and getting control of his long arms. He's gotten a lot stronger in a year but he's still a year away from being physically developed, is my guess. When he does I think we'll see more 'snap' in many of his actions.

More than anything I want to see him become less turnover prone and just grab some boards this by ear in D League. Seems everybody can get a steal on the young fella.

I know some people didn't see the amazing Bruno pass to Biyombo in the Wolves game. I finally found a video of it, it's the last play:

So he's pulling Clyde Drexler layups in practice and he can't keep from turning the ball over. That's kind of annoying. Lol. Joking. I love this kid.

IMO defense relies on 3 things: hard work, physical traits, and IQ. Bruno has 2 of these so far.

His court vision and defensive awareness definitely seems improved over last year. I haven't watched the second 905 game yet, but he made a couple great plays in the opener. Made a nice bounce pass for a layup/dunk and I was especially impressed by that steal of an inbounds pass he made. I don't think there are more than 3 or 4 other guys in pro basketball who could make that play. He was only able to make the steal due to his ridiculous length. He did get burned on a couple corner threes though.
