OT: Durant Will Do What's Best For Him As 2016 Free Agent

Post#1 » by Kreamy » Wed Jul 30, 2014 4:59 am

Per wiretap

Kevin Durant spoke extensively on Tuesday about his 2016 free agency for the first time.

Durant made it clear that he will put himself first when choosing his future.

“I’m going to do what’s best for me,” Durant told reporters in Las Vegas. “It’s hard to talk about that right now when I’ve got two years left in Oklahoma City. I’m just going to focus on that. I’m not going to make a decision based on what anybody else does.”

Durant is focused on the present, yet refused to rule out anything in the future.

Durant has been linked to the Washington Wizards in 2016.

“Look, we going to put it out on tape. It’s been talked about,” Durant said when asked about signing with his hometown Wizards. “Everybody’s asked me about it every time I go on Instagram or Twitter. All my friends ask me about it. So I’m not going to sit here and act like I’m naïve to the fact that people think about that stuff. But I just tell everybody that I’m here in Oklahoma City. I love it here. Who knows what will happen. I never close the door on anything. But I like where I’m at right now. So I can’t answer that question.”

Durant signed a full five-year extension in 2010 rather than insisting on a player option that would have allowed him to become a free agent earlier in his career.

“To be honest, I just didn’t know. I was 21. I didn’t know,” Durant said. “Obviously, when you sign a deal you want to have the best options for yourself, the best flexibility for yourself. But I loved Oklahoma City so much I just wanted to dedicate and show them that I’m all about the team."

His glowing praise of LeBron's decision to go home pretty much removes any remaining doubt that I had about him going to Washington in 2 years.

He basically confirmed he's signing in Toronto.

Reading between the lines it really doesn't sound like he plans on resigning in Okc unless they make a dramatic commitment to improving their roster and spending money. Will be interesting to see if Okc puts him in the market before that off season and if so, what the price would be. No doubt it will be a hefty price even though his impending free agency would lower it

Basically he's saying he's likely not going to re-sign with the Thunder but that Washington isn't his top destination.

Raptor fans need to stop being delusional. Its highly unlikely Durant comes here.

There's no way Durant comes here. But if he did it would be monumental. Close to shutting the internet down. Or at least die trying.

He's so going to Washington.

We better get Bruno some levels before then.

I think that this is a shot across the bow meant for Clay Bennett;

Ownership has refused to pull the trigger on spending the money needed to put them over the top no matter how close they were. If Durant left in 2016 I would have no issue with it, he stuck it out, he played his butt off, and they wouldn't go into the tax to help a that has had a winning percentage > .700 for the last three seasons.

With that said, If Durant leaves in 2016 I can't imagine that market maintains the team;

I can respect that opinion but honestly how would you phrase something if you were in the same situation & you had no clue what decision youd make? I think he really doesn't know, he may re-sign in OKC if they're a good contender, he may re-sign with another team if the same is true. I doubt he's made any decision on leaving or staying in OKC yet

All the signs seem to be pointing to Washington being legit favs for him. I'd think home+Wall/Beal backcourt is more appealing than what we can offer unfortunately. Hell, he was recruiting for the Redskins this offseason.

Did we expect him to do what's best for someone else, or something? :-?

I don't think we should be paying that much to a guy who would be our 3rd option (at best) by that time.
