To me, that's way more racist then what the owner said. I have no idea what exact negative connotation he's referring to that applies to Africans, but it's clearly negative.
That's brings up another thing, everytime these types of stories comes up people learn about elements of racism they otherwise wouldn't have known. After the sterling thing we found out how many Jewish people view darker skinned people. With the Hawks owner people found out that if something is too catered to black people, then white people will be scared off. Now we're going to learn about some African stereotype many of us didn't even know.
I wonder how much racism is even passed down from parents to kids anymore, compared to the hyper focus it has in the media, as well as the many outlets it has online and on social media and comments sections. We've been taught that racism will fade away with every generation getting older and it being passed down less and less. It's become it's own entity without even needing to be fostered in homes and in families anymore. A whole industry of talking heads and writers who can capitalize on it and constantly push it to the forefront of the Media's story lines. Which in turn creates animosity from both sides seeing their side as the one being treated unfairly, with racism still existing behind closed doors and reverse racism being allowed to be more forward and outright. Young kids who wouldn't even learn about this stuff from their parents can now learn to feel divided at an even younger age simply by paying attention to current issues. I just don't think this is the way to go about eradicating it.
