Interview with Bruno Caboclo

Post#1 » by Shantz » Tue Sep 30, 2014 2:09 am

Had the opportunity to interview Bruno for HoopsHabit.com. Thought this one tidbit in particular would interest many here:

But while in Los Angeles, Bruno also had the opportunity to play with and get feedback from players around the league. “I had the chance to play pickup games in L.A., at the Clippers facility. Played against several stars from the Raptors and Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Paul Pierce, Blake Griffin, Barnes, etc. So many NBA players were there during that week. At the end of the day, they all came to talk to me, inquiring my age, my nationality, etc. Basically, they gave me their support by complimenting my game and told me to keep it up and keep playing hard. It a was good experience.”

good article though lol....its funny after all the hype about this team in the last few weeks (deep bench, big years from lowry/dd, breakouts for JV and TRoss etc..) i feel Bruno gets lost. Demar is 6 years older than him...if he has a good work ethic and a good head on his shoulders the sky is the limit for him

kids got the tools, just practicing with the team will help him grow, a few minutes here and there... we'll see if he can grow into an nba body, clearly has the length but no mass.
Pascal to the future.

When he enters the game for the first time, I have a feeling our crazy fans will give him a standing ovation.. at which point he will pee himself.

Really nice interview - and a good day to post it when our local papers are each writing the exact same stories as one another!

He's a really exciting prospect, and while I think he'll be god-awful this year, I think he could mature into a really good player.

Just curious, when he mentioned training with those stars - was he referring to Matt Barnes or Harrison Barnes?

Nope, just the author of the piece.

He didn't specify and I didn't have an opportunity to clarify with him. My assumption is that he was speaking about Matt Barnes since he was at the Clippers facility, but that is just a guess.

I think anyone who is expecting big things from him in year one will be disappointed, but I do believe we will see flickers of it during garbage time minutes. He has a smooth shot and due to his length can already interfere with the passing lanes. Lots to learn, but lots of potential to build upon. Great to have him join a young team of players who are known as hard workers. I think the Raptors are a perfect fit for his development at the moment.

When Bruno was drafted, he could barely string a sentence together in English. Did he do the interview in English on his own, without an interpreter or did you edit the language to make it more comprehensible and reader friendly? :o

American Caboclo talking face-to-face with Brizilian Durant.
Would look to see a picture with those two standing side-by-side.
#Raptors are 7-1. In 6 of the past 10 seasons, a team that has started a season 7-1 has gone on to win an NBA championship.

Interview was done electronically, but without a translator. For over a month he was receiving private tutoring 1.5hours a day. He has continued that 1-2 times a week since then. His English has really improved as demonstrated at Media Day yesterday. Has gained a lot of confidence in this regard.
