OT: Alec Burks re-signs in Utah: 4Y, $42M

Post#1 » by Rhettmatic » Fri Oct 31, 2014 3:44 pm

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--g ... 55806.html

Utah Jazz guard Alec Burks has reached an agreement on a four-year, $42 million contract extension, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Reachable incentive clauses could push Burks’ deal to $45 million, sources said.

Burks has developed into one of the NBA’s better young shooting guards and is a cornerstone of the franchise’s youthful core.

That's a lot of money for a player I have never heard of.

Holy crap. Had a 16 PER last year, a <.1 WS/48. Can shoot the three but isn't great at it (.350). And is pretty not great defensively.

Ross just got a LOT more expensive.

Derozan money .. not too bad considering his upside. Kinda plays similar to Derozan (but with much better handles and ability to create his own shot).

I do not think its as bad as you guys think. For a majority of last season he was averaging 16-17 ppg, 3 RPG, and 3 APG. He has started this year off strong as well. They are definitely banking on his continued improvement.

From your basic counting and efficiency stats, Ross is far behind Burks. 16 PER vs 12 PER.

A 16 PER is pretty good for a 3rd year SG in this day and age.

If there was ever a time to make a really hard attempt at becoming a professional NBA athlete....judging by these contracts....now would be the time to do it.

Burks' second year PER was 11.5. I don't think the comparison is that far off.

Statistically anyway, he was better than Derozan when Demar got paid. But Demar has improved a lot, and may have been seen as having more potential.... although we are dealing with a 12 th overall pick who produced in his 3rd year.

If he did think he could get that kinda money, pack his bags before the Playoffs so we do better this year.

Agreed. He had some big games last year against some pretty good teams.

This one against Miami

So your saying the standard level of progression is from 11.5 to 16.

Only time I heard of this guy is when he got drafted and how certain posters were saying he will end up being better than Demar and we should trade for him.

Meh. Just because other GMs do dumb things doesn't mean Masai has to.

This is DeRozan 2.0

It could get up being a bargain if Burks can continue to improve. Wasn't impressed with his game 2 years ago but he certainly improved a lot last season

However, right now, most have the right to question the contract

So with Hayward, Favors and now Burks on the books as the meat of their cap, and Gobert showing signs still on his rookie scale for a few more years, is Kanter the odd man out?
